Hillcroft Cottage

Lovely cottage, great location just a few steps from the beach but up a quiet side lane.

Well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay and nicely decorated in coastal style. Beds comfy - essential! Would book again.

The cottage location is fantastic, seconds from the waters edge and all the lovely facilities of Shaldon.

The cottage itself is lovely, very comfortable and stylish. The stairs as stated in the details are a bit tricky to use, would not recommend with the elderly or young as narrow, winding and without adequate handrails. There are a few little things that need repairing but all in all a really nice cottage for 4 people. The cava and biscuits on arrival were a nice touch!

Kitchen was well equipped . would suggest hooks in bathroom for towels and in top bedroom . Otherwise we found everything as stated and had a super stay.

This is a charming cottage very well located for the amenities of Shaldon.

It is well equipped and comfortable. As the listing explains, the stairs up to the bedrooms are steep, so not recommended for those with mobility issues. It's only down-side is the lack of off-street parking (very common in Shaldon), but we found a space in the village and left the car there for the duration of our short stay! We would visit again, and highly recommended.

Excellent property.

Wonderful beds! I wish it was mine!! The situation was perfect being so near the sea. The village shop was adequate for daily needs and the assistants very friendly.

Needs much better instructions in binder eg.

Put rubbish out on Fridays for private company to collect - not picked up. No instructions re: bed linens/ towels when checking out. Kitchen - dirty. Fridge was dirty inside, kettle and toaster, actually everything in kitchen had a film of grime covering it. Old food ( peas) on counter when we arrived. Enough to put me off cooking there, and eating off plates/cutlery until had been put through the dishwasher. I did contact Sykes about this and have photos to back up my claims. One tea towel for 2 week stay! No bin liners. There are far better, and more organised, places to stay in Shaldon. Bathroom and bedrooms were clean, including bedding and towels. Location is great. Stairs barely wide enough to get a suitcase up. Skimpy on supplies left eg. 2 toilet rolls. Overall I got the impression the owners are cheap on the little things, and they need to change their cleaning company asap. Personally I would not return. Lots of other choices out there.

Beautiful, cosy cottage in a lovely , quiet village .

Close to cosy pubs and beach . We had a lovely stay despite grotty weather .

The cottage has been beautifully refurbished to a high standard, however it is quite dark and there's nowhere to sit outside and no view.

It's in a very good position, just round the corner from the front and down the hill from the botanical gardens. It's spotlessly clean and the beds are very comfortable. We had a very nice week there, Shaldon is just a lovely village and everyone is very friendly.

Booked last minute lovely well presented property good position too…less than a minutes walk to sea front.

Good images description on Sykes website already let family and friends know.Negotiating the staircase was tricky at first everything fine nice touch with biscuits and Prosecco.

It was a beautiful house in a quaint village We loved the decor and the colour scheme of the house.

It wasvery inspiring and gave me ideas for my home. Shaldon is a very friendly place and great place to explore South Devon. We had a great day at Newton Abbot race course.

Absolutely fantastic stay at Hillcroft Cottage.

The cottage is beautifully presented and super clean. Honestly one of the cleanest properties we’ve rented in the UK! The kitchen is well stocked and modern and the whole property is perfect for a little break away in the great village of Shaldon. If I was to provide constructive criticism then I would suggest getting some better blind in both bedrooms. Both didn’t work properly and the ones in the top bedroom fell off as soon as I went to close them for the first night. The other area I would suggest attention is the front of the property. There’s lots of weeds by the door and front window that spoil the look of a beautiful property. Around we loved our stay and will very likely be back to stay again.

A perfect location. We didn't have to use the car. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed.

Hillcroft cottage is a delightful place to stay.

Welcoming, clean, tidy, comfy beds, great location to the village, beach walks and with an internal decor that is of a really good standard. A little hiccup with the wood and firelighters, but easily sorted once the office was contacted. (The only negative was the loo brush, which was rusty and had been used previously with the remnants still on it and had been left open, with the brush poking out. Not an issue, as it was wrapped in a bin liner and put outside for my stay, on the basis of health and hygiene reasons. Also, possibly a bit of maintenance needed on the bathroom sink tap, but otherwise a lovely bathroom.) I hope to return and will stay for longer next time, as the kitchen and bathroom are just my style. I heartily recommend this cottage for comfort, cleanliness and location. Be warned however, as parking in Shaldon is an issue.

A cafetiere (metal perhaps - less easy to break!

) and some oven gloves would be useful additions. As would enough logs and kindling for perhaps one fire. There weren't any at all. We had a lovely time. Such an idyllic location, thank you.

Awesome cottage in an amazing place.

A lovely week of early morning swims with fresh croissants from the local bakers on the beach. With those starts how could the day go wrong? Driving in was a bit of a shock with the narrow streets that the satnav took us through but parking wasn't that difficult and then we only took the car out once as there was plenty to do within walking distance or train.

Such a great house, luxurious and really functional! It had everything we needed and more! Lovely airy and roomy house in a cracker of a location!!!

The blind in the sitting room was broken , which we reported , but no action was taken, This meant that as the cottage was on the street there was no privacy.

The stairs are so steep you have to crawl up them so no breakfast in bed or even a cup of tea. No outside space as expected or parking so vastly overpriced. No not a pleasant stay but blind should have been fixed!

Narrowness of street means drop off can be difficult.

The cottage was absolutely lovely.

Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The location is perfect for everything that Shaldon has to offer. We loved our week there and would happily have stayed for another. The welcome gifts were a lovely touch too, thank you!

On road parking is very difficult in the village due to narrow streets and double yellow lines.

Although there was a Car park nearby the road was closed off making access extremely difficult - what should have been a five minute walk took nearly twenty minutes.

Very well furnished property in ideal location.

Comfy beds and quality settees. A few more untensils such as an extra pan and pyrex bowl or jug to use in microwave would be useful plus obscure glazing on front door so people can't look in when you are out. Great find. Will book again. Thanks for the prosecco - a nice welcome touch.

Amazing holiday beautiful place the cottage was perfect so gorgeous clean and had everything we needed

I found the stairs very difficult some warning should be posted in description .

Narrow and winding my wife and I had to go hands and knees to use them. The other problem is there is No Parking at all we paid £3 60 a day to park on the edge of village some half a mile outside village up a steep hill.

Just 2 very small things.

... no ironing faculties & the wardrobe door in front bedroom didn’t close, so had to be careful getting up in the dark. Apart from that everything else was spot on.
