Sunvale

In the nearly 30 years I have booked with Helpful Holidays/Sykes Holidays, I don't think I have ever stayed at a place where there wasn't a shelf of books.

I always take books away with me, and then leave them once read for whoever follows, but as there were none at this cottage I donated them to one of the charity shops. Other than that the house was clean and comfortable, and plenty of instructions on how to use various appliances. It was nice to receive a welcome text.

The accommodation was well suited to our needs, to see family living near Newton Abbot and to visit locations nearby.

It was convenient for the trains that took us to Totnes and Buckfastleigh butterfly farm and otter sanctuary. The bus services to Newton Abbot and Exeter ran almost past the door. The ferry to Shaldon and the lifeboat station were interesting, as was the Teign Heritage Centre. There is a wide selection of eateries in Teignmouth and we enjoyed sampling some of these. The hostess was very helpful in keeping us informed about rubbish collections and responded positively when we reported a blocked bathroom sink just before we left A major setback for us as we were visiting family by car was the difficulty and stress of finding somewhere to park on our return. On two occasions we had to go around the block a couple of times before we found a place, and then these were 200 to 400 metres away. Once we were able to get a parking spot outside the house we did not move the car again until we left. So we would recommend the accommodation as more suited to persons not having a car and maybe travelling by train or bus. To sum up succinctly, we really enjoyed our experience and would recommend Sunvale to others.

Fantastic accommodation.

Very homely with a seaside theme. It has everything you need! The only downside is the lack of parking spaces but we were lucky and managed to park right outside the majority of the time. I'd say if you can, use the train which is only about a 10 min walk (we didn't because of our little one). With family in Newton, we would definitely come back again as it's hard to find a decent price place that isn't pet friendly (asthma and allergies).

We loved the cottage so much, everything all equipped.

Comfy beds didn’t want to get up in the mornings. Comfy sofas, well equipped kitchen. Close to Teignmouth station where we left car in garage and walked to station to go off out for the day. exeter for shops. Some days we walked into town and back again. Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Torquay ,Paignton, lovely steam train to Kingswear and ferry across to Dartmouth. Ferry across from Torquay around the coast to Brixham. Such a lovely holiday weather booked for August 2026.

This was our 3rd stay at Sunvale.

It’s like a home from home and we feel very comfortable here. We love the location as we can leave the car all week and get the train or bus all around the area very easily. Everything that you need is provided and a 10 minute walk takes you to town. We shall happily stay here again!

Excellent home from home.

Good to have all the facilities like a washing machine and dishwasher etc. There was one small issue ( beeping alarm due to tired battery) which the owner sorted with just a text and short visit so that was great.

We rate this property very highly in every respect.

It was extremely comfortable, the bed and sofas couldn't have been better and we felt very much at home there. It was quite cool inside the house which we appreciated during a hot week. Everything we needed was provided, it was extremely clean and there was ample space. We also liked having some outdoor space which, although a suntrap in the evening, it was possible to use without being in the full sun, and even the patio chairs were comfortable! It's true that parking wasn't totally easy and we found the garage quite tricky (getting in and out of it in a narrow road), but we didn't find it too difficult finding places fairly nearby to park. It certainly wouldn't deter us from returning to Sunvale, which we very much hope to do. Another plus is that public transport locally is surprisingly good, so it's easy to visit places by train and bus. And it's only a short and pleasant walk down to town (there are various short cuts that avoid the main road) but walking back is a bit of a slog as it's all uphill. But that's no problem, as there are two buses that go from town to Bitton Park Road and, if you're lucky, another one that actually goes down Coombe Vale Road. We wholeheartedly recommend this property.

Very nice property , Everything we needed was on hand , 8min walk to center of town was great , A great position for other towns to visit , , My only grumble would be parking , Managed to park outside the house 4/7 days .

Sunvale is a lovely cottage.

We really enjoyed our week here and made use of the garage during our stay. A 5-10 minute walk from the town centre, pubs, shops and the sea front. Our favourite places for lunch were The Blue Hut and Nourish. Can recommend the walk to Dawlish on a sunny day, we caught the train back. Take the ferry boat to Shaldon and visit Smugglers Tunnel and Ness Cove Beach. Teignmouth Museum is also worth a visit. The cottage has everything you need for your stay, very clean, comfortable and homely. Thank you for having us!

A brilliant location for town and beach.

Clean, comfortable, tasteful décor and well equipped. Excellent for bus services up and down the coast and Teignmouth rail connections are brilliant. We had a ball !

A lovely property with everything you would want for a comfortable stay.

The property is spotlessly clean, the beds are extremely comfortable and the living accommodation modern and comfortable. The location is great for the town centre a short walk away. We used public transport to get around to other resorts so no driving was required. Parking can be a slight problem in the evening but we took advantage of the garage which is across the road from the property and cost £25 per week arranged directly with Christine, the owner, through Sykes cottage. There are lots of places to eat in Teignmouth and our favourites were The Crab Shack, The Jolly Sailor and the L’Invidia Italian restaurant. Remember to book as these places are very popular. We do not hesitate to recommend Sunvale, a lovely stay in a lovely home.

This was a lovely cottage.

It was very clean and a pleasure to say in. There could have been more blankets, though, as it was a little cold at night. However, all the facilities were good. We would like to return one day soon.

Sunvale is a lovely place to stay.

It is clean and comfortable with very pleasant decor. It is a short walk from town and the railway station. This is our second stay and will not be our last, we highly recommend.

Well placed to walk into both Teignmouth and Shaldon. Nicely furnished and pretty much everything you need is there. Nice little back area to sit and read or just relax. Both Teignmouth and Shaldon are quirky and interesting places, we very much enjoyed our stay.

Sunvale is a beautiful house and is very comfortable.

With modern decor it was very light and airy. Everything we could have needed was supplied. A short walk from the town makes it ideally situated and we often left the car behind.

High quality rental with an easy walk to the coast and train station, travelling very pretty along the coastline of Devon and to Plymouth.

Would recommend Babbacombe model village and funicular railway, about 20 mins fromTeignmouth. Cottage was immaculate, nicely prepared for our visit and appreciated the little touches for us.

we had a wonderful stay in Teignmouth Devon Sunvale our cottage was wonderful very cozy, quiet, very homely to come back to after a long day out enjoying the local sights, everything we needed was close at hand our car never moved from the front of the cottage as we used the trains, buses and boat rides.

Neighbours both sides were very noisy.

Downside to the information that parking outside on the road was available the fact that most days we went out and about and when we returned we could not park outside the property and we had to park way up the road was not helpful. The holiday was booked on the basis of personal parking space so will not be booking this property again. Location was good as we went to many local places with a good variety of options to enjoy.

The holiday home , was clean and comfortable with all modern facilities, we felt very comfortable there .

it was very easy to walk to Teignmouth and a car is only needed if you want to travel around other parts of Devon

Sunvale is such a lovely holiday home for anyone planning a holiday in Teignmouth .

We felt so relaxed there during our stay . The home was cleaned to a high standard and the lovely furnishings made for a very comfortable stay and a pleasure to come back to at the end of the day . Sunvale is a five minute walk from the centre of Teignmouth , with a bit of an uphill walk back . Everything you need for your stay has been carefully considered by the owners who are very approachable should you need to contact them . If we where to return to this area of Devon Sunvale would be top of our list to stay !

Lovely comfortable cottage with quality furnishings.

Car parking by cottage not always available but able to load and unload car close by.

The Cottage was even better than expected everything you need on holiday very tastefully decorated and very comfy beds.

The owner was very helpful would highly recommend also close to the railway station.

The holiday cottage was so clean and very comfortable, with all the white appliances you would have in your own home amazing.

The Cottage is beautiful, everything you could possible want, comfortable bed, plenty of wardrobe space and drawers, and lots of towels.

A lovely modern Kitchen with everything you need, including a dishwasher. Only a short walk to the Town and there are bus stops at the end of the road to take you to either Torquay, Exeter or Newton Abbott.

Excellent holiday home.

Clean, modern, fresh and comfortable. My only down point would be the lack of parking on the street. Not a big problem for most but with a baby and a toddler is wasn’t easy.

The accommodation itself is outstanding.

Clean, modern and equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. The only issue is the lack of on street parking but that is something which the owners cannot do anything about and is for the local council to sort.
