    • “Friendly host, beautiful setting - peaceful retreat! Loved it, will be back!!”

    Mr Nuttall, Derby, December 2018

    • “The location was outstanding and remote enough that all you could hear was the sound of the sea and wind through the trees. The hosts were friendly and helpful providing a first-class experience.”

    Mr Lincoln, Tonbridge, November 2018

    • “"Treetops" really is as the label says! A quiet, out of the way from it all setting, within woodland overlooking the gorgeous Devon coast. A 10 minute walk to the rocky Woody Bay. A cosy, comfortable and warm wooden cabin with all of the modern facilities. My husband and I felt very comfortable. The owners Gloria and James were very welcoming and went out of their way to ensure we had everything, they were also able to give us lots of history of the area. We visited within 10/15 mins drive Lynton and Lynmouth, our favourite Watersmeet - after walking from Lynton & Lynmouth to Watersmeet, we enjoyed a lovely refreshment in the National Trust Cafe. Definitely one of our favourite locations and somewhere we'll return to and recommend.”

    Mr Robson, Swindon, September 2018

    • “The host Gloria and James absolutely delightful. Best place I have stayed. Will be returning.”

    Miss Sheen, , September 2018

    • “Treetops is a raised chalet situated in the grounds of the owners' house. Having said that you don't feel confined or intruded upon, partly due to the raised nature of the accommodation and also due to the tranquillity and calm of the surroundings. We arrived at about 3.30 on the Friday of our weekend stay. The owners greeted us and gave us a brief tour. They made us feel relaxed and welcomed and managed the important knack of making us feel that they would be available if needed, but that we had our own space too. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The sitting room area had two large comfortable settees and a TV and DVD player. The kitchen had a fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, dishwasher, toaster and washing machine. That bathroom had both a shower and bath. The bedroom was cosy, but not cramped, and the bed was large and comfortable. Due to the weather we didn't use the outdoor seating. \ Saturday's weather was pretty horrible, so we drove to Lynton (3 miles or 5 depending on which route you take). We explored the shops and restaurants, and walked down the steep hill to Lynmouth, though took the cliff train back up. \ Sunday's weather was glorious for the time of year, so we walked from Treetops along the coastal path to Lynton, via the Valley of the Rocks. It was a lovely walk, arduous but definitely worth it. We had lunch in Lynmouth, before walking back.”

Guest's Review On TripAdvisor October 27,

    • “the location and the hosts made for a very enjoyable week. The accommodation was excellent with everything we needed. The bird life on view out of the cottage was an added bonus.”

    • “The property is unusual, Treetops describes it very well! We enjoyed the views, peace and quiet, some fabulous walking without even getting in the car. Lots of wildlife. Gloria and James were excellent hosts, always chatty when we saw them and full of advice on local sights.”

    • “The accommodation was lovely and of a very high standard, with all the amenities needed for a very comfortable stay. The views and area in general were stunning with Woody Bay only 10 minutes' walk away. The lodge is supplied by water from a nearby spring which was the icing on the cake for me, being a bit of a health nut! We spent our time walking, visiting nearby places like Lynton and Lynmouth, relaxing in the peacefulness of the lodge or eating out. The Old Station House (15 mins drive away) provided good food at a reasonable price. It was probably the best holiday I've had and found a week was not long enough! The owners were lovely people and very welcoming, I will definitely holiday there again.”

    Guest's Review On TripAdvisor,

    • “Treetops is a lovely timber lodge Sit up high among the trees in the owner's garden. It's nicely laid out with a lot of care taken to make it welcoming and had of plenty of space for the two of us plus Alf our dog. It is so very peaceful and tranquil that if you want to just relax and rest or read it will be perfect spot. Woody Bay is magnificent, a beautiful area and the little bay itself it stunning. There are lots of walks in the area, some right from the door. The rest of Exmoor also has many interesting places to visit, we particularly enjoyed a walk from Porlock Weir especially and an evening walk around the Valley of the Rocks. We were greeted on arrival and shown around Treetops and given some interesting information on the history of Treetops and Woody Bay in general. Treetops was a very comfortable place to stay and sitting out on the decking watching all of the birds feeding very close by in the trees was a joy.”

Guest's Review On TripAdvisor 14 July,

    • “My wife and I were extremely impressed with Treetops. The owners could not have been more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They were founts of wisdom about the locality and are very obviously and rightly proud of what they have created. Having spent the last forty years using holiday cottages, I can honestly say that Treetops is one of the top venues. The cottage is beautifully presented and sits in wonderful surroundings. Wildlife abounds and you sit on the balcony right in it's midst. We were visited by many birds including nuthatches and woodpeckers using the feeder supplied by the owners. This may seem nothing out of the ordinary but because of regular feeding we sat on the balcony, no more than three metres away while they happily fed unperturbed by our presence. The surrounding woodlands have a special magic and remind me of scenes from Lord of the Rings. There is tranquility in abundance. This is a must visit property.”

    Mr & Mrs Robinson,

    • “Treetops is a beautiful little chalet among the trees on the owners' land. It is beautifully laid out with plenty of space for us and our two large dogs. It has everything you need and is so very peaceful and tranquil that if you want to just relax and rest it will be perfect. Woody Bay is magnificent, a beautiful area and the little bay itself it stunning. There are heaps of walks to do in the area, some right from Treetops door step. There is Hunters Inn pub, a stroll along the SW Coastal Path or a trek along the actual coat path which was magnificent which you can walk to from Treetops. The area is stunning and our dogs thoroughly loved it. The hosts are wonderful people, they greet you upon arrival show you around and seem to have that rare knack of understanding people on holiday. Treetops is very comfortable and beautifully maintained. I would thoroughly recommend Treetops as a little bolt hole, we have come back having had a wonderful time and feeling refreshed, relaxed and at peace. Heaven!”

    • “Four days away, what a treat it was at Treetops! All mod cons. Nice walks. Great views. Lovely couple of owners. We ate a tasty fish stew along the coast at the Fox & Goose.”

Guest's Review On TripAdvisor January 27,

    • “"Treetops" really is one of those 'away from it all' holiday destinations…nestling within very old woodland overlooking the gorgeous, rugged, Devon coast, and only a 10 minute walk from the rocky and dramatic Woody Bay. A warm, comfortable, cosy, but spacious wooden cabin offering everything a couple and their dog could need. The owners Gloria and James were very welcoming and went out of their way to ensure we had everything.\ A superb location, surrounded by wildlife (we saw deer, badger, a variety of birdlife, and to cap it all, dolphins, several times!), and within easy reach of Lynton and Lynmouth, and Exmoor. Definitely one of our favourite locations and somewhere we'll try and return to.”

    Chris Bestall. 22 October 2014,

    • “"Treetops" is truly tops. To find wine in the fridge and a wonderful welcome pack of goodies was a great start to a wonderful holiday. Accommodation of the highest standard. Will book again.”

The Property

Treetops really is a true 'hideaway'. Situated half a mile down a no-through road (directly overlooking the Bristol Channel and leading to the beach) with almost no passing traffic, it is surrounded by National Trust woodland where fallow and red deer are frequent visitors. There are superb views of the coastline from above the bay and, for keen walkers, the South West Coast Path is very close by. The rocky cove at Woody Bay, reputed haunt of smugglers which has a sandy beach at low tide, is about ten minutes' walk further down the lane, while the famous Valley of the Rocks is a short distance to the east.Treetops is nestled in the hillside above the courtyard behind the main house. It is reached by a flight of wooden steps leading to a large, private deck area looking towards the sea (partially visible, especially in winter). The whole of the front of the building is glass, flooding the interior with light, and the conversion has produced an extremely attractive Scandinavian feel with lots of pale wood, bright rugs, comfortable furniture and modern fittings to make it a wonderful place in which to escape.
