Fantastic cottage, can't fault it.

We had a great week. Lovely outside space for the dog and the cottage was equipped with everytihng we needed. Location is ideal for exploring Devon and during the week we got to Drogo Castle, Exeter, the brilliant dog friendly Goodrington Beach in Paignton, St Austell and more besides. We hope to be back soon!

Lovely place very cosy and a very comfortable bed!

! Loved sitting in the garden watching the birds and the rabbits. Great jump off point for walking and visiting surroundin area's.

We had an amazing week at Thorny Tallet, we didn't want to come home!

The cottage was perfect - lovely and quiet and very relaxing. It was very clean, had lovely big rooms and met all our needs for a family of 4 plus our dog. The garden was also a good size for the kids to play in, and especially for our medium sized dog. Clive and Lyn were only a call/text away if we had any questions - thank you. This is a perfect base for exploring Devon and North Cornwall, especially if you want to come home after a busy day out and just relax in peace and quiet. We would definitely recommend Thorny Tallet, and we will hopefully be back in the future :)

Lovely house and garden in a quiet location

The accommodation is more isolated than the site tells you.

The garden, although it has a 3' wire fence around it, is not secure for bigger dogs. We have two Golden retrievers, who cleared the fence with no trouble to explore the bigger field. Luckily, good recall brought them back, but you could not let them out by themselves for peace of mind; you had to be with them. Accommodation was comfortable, although we ate out most nights. Kitchen equipment was fine, although the cupboard doors were getting tired. The bathroom needs a new shower and a new pedestal for the basin, as it was all right if you are 4' tall, and the toilet seat needs fixing. The bedrooms were great, and the beds were fantastic. If you like isolation and a bit of walking, it was fantastic.

Thorny Tallet is a beautiful cottage, the photos are spot on.

It was a home from home and we felt it as soon as we walked in. The secure garden was a great bonus for our two spaniels and it was nice for them to be able to roam about without worrying about them. We will be back!

Despite the weather being adverse we had a lovely stay at Thorney Tallet.

it was spotlessly clean & had everything we needed for a most pleasant stay. The barn is very remote and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. We didn't walk anywhere directly from the property so cannot comment on local walks. Some of the lanes are very narrow so driving with caution is required. Had some lovely days out to Bude, Lydford Gorge & White Lady Falls & Tavistock. We came back fully recharged as the Barn had everything we needed & was spotlessly clean plus beds were so comfortable. Garden was nice 7 secure & Ted our pooch loved it. Would definitely recommend this property if your looking especially if you are looking for peace & quiet.

Everything I was expecting.

The cottage is lovely in a quiet location... ideal for a peaceful getaway. Stunning Dartmoor is only a few miles away so perfect for those who like the outdoor life. Highly recommended. Really enjoyed my stay.

Thorny Tallet was a lovely cottage with all the facilities you will need.

Our 2 Golden Retrievers really enjoyed the large and securely fenced off garden. Owners family live in an adjacent property and are very friendly and helpful The cottage is some what remote so that can be both a good or a bad thing? The roads leading to and in the general location of the cottage are basic farm tracks so a little uneven.

With Climate change I think Fans should be provided.

in the Summer. Nice spacious property with comfortable beds and seating. Excellent secure garden for our dog. Very good value for money. Liked the on site parking, track there is very uneven. Nearby Local dog walks sadly often overgrown (probably not in any way the fault of the owner). Very good local Pub in North Lew and park in Okehampton is nice.

We would highly recommend this well-equipped holiday rental.

The cottage was clean and comfortable with everything you would need for a happy stay. The area is so peaceful and the enclosed secure garden was lovely. Super local walks nearby. The local friendly pub does great food. Ideal for trips out such as the Meldon Reservoir, Dartmoor, Bridport, Westward Ho which has a super long beach. We hope to return.

This was our third stay at Thorny Tallett and it never disappoints.

The cottage has everything you need and is the most spacious which is what we love the most. The beds are so comfy which guaranteed a good night's sleep and the bath was great after a long day exploring. The enclosed garden was enjoyed by our 2 dogs and is a lovely spot for watching and listening to nature. We highly recommend booking this cottage as it really is a home from home and we cannot wait to rebook for later this year.

Lovely old hay barn conversion.

Everything you need is provided. Could do with a few lamps in the main room as the spot lights are many and very bright. Overall a very relaxing break. The enclosed garden was great for the dogs. The owner was helpful. Beautiful part of our country.

Absolutely stunning cottage if you’re after some peace and relaxation.

Amazing walks and scenery all close to the cottage. Some nice local pubs that do lovely food. Something different to do everyday all within a short drive. Will definitely use this cottage again.

Cottage was lovely and comfortable.

Alternative directions to avoid potholes given by owner were invaluable thank you. First time we’ve had good weather which allowed us to enjoy the garden which was fantastic. Would definitely recommend especially to people with dogs! Kindest regards

A small freezer and a dish washer would have really good but otherwise brilliant.

To visitors, take the roads in slowly and enjoy the peaceful views. This is Devon!

The cottage is lovely, clean and comfortable.

Generally pretty well equipped and with the most comfortable beds. We are already booked in for August which will be our third visit. The local roads in okehampton are full of potholes as is the lane down to the cottage- much worse than I’ve ever seen them before. I have mentioned this to the owner already and in fairness I don’t think the lane is their responsibility. It’s worth being aware of when you do visit to try and avoid damage to your tyres.

Thorny Talley is gorgeous cottage nestled in a quiet peaceful location, but near to many attractions.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and very cosy, especially with the woodfire stove and underfloor heating. With the comfy beds and a good bath to soak in after long walks, we truly relaxed and enjoyed our week. Bruno the hound especially loved the secure garden. The owners were kind and helpful and very respectful of our privacy, and we hope to return.

Well thought out property.

Parking area and lawn smaller than photos might suggest. Fantastic wood burner. Agree with previous comments that heating upstairs is a bit lacking especially bathroom. Very peaceful. Lovely dog walk opposite the end of the drive and local pub is walkable cross country and very worth a visit. Good place to relax

It’s a lovely comfortable cottage but not to stay on the colder months.

Needs electric towel rail to dry towels as there no heatin in bath room and a heater in bedrooms on chilly days. Would go back in the better weather as it is so comfortable and plenty of walk for the dogs

Great well equipped cottage, perfect for what we wanted a peaceful getaway, totally off the beaten track.

Stunning location , peaceful and quiet and close enough to local towns .

Very well kept and clean cottage and lovely garden . Suggestions for next guests no cleaning materials provided only 1 cloth . Really could do with some kitchen spray for surfaces for hygiene purposes when cooking and a pan scrubber . A mop and bucket would have been ideal to clean up paw prints after my dog coming in from the garden .

LOVE the garden my 2border collies went mad for it, the area behind it supposedly for our use but couldn't get into as it needs cutting.

The cottage was great, could use some heaters in the bedroom especially with it weather getting cold and damp. The area was brilliant for walking just take welly's. If we can get back there in the next year we will try and book this place again.

Lovely and cosy!

A very well equipped cottage in the middle of nowhere. Rabbits and mice in the garden and bats and owls in the sky - couldn't really get any better. We love it, as do our dogs!

Clean, comfortable and well equipped. Very comfortable beds too! Property in a great location for walks, wildlife and local attractions.

Thorny tallet is a perfect place to stay for a peaceful break doing nothing or as base for walking the Devonshire countryside or exploring further afield by transport .

Everything you need is inside the property . The beds are really comfortable and the whole place was spotless on arrival . It is of course dog friendly and the ground floor is sensibly tiled to suit . The property is actually a bit further down the lane than any sat nav will tell you but the property is clearly signed on a farm gate at the top of the drive . Follow the golf club and hotel signs initially and you won’t go wrong . All in all a fabulous place in Devonshire farmland and one we will use again when we are in the okehampton district ! TMC

The cottage; a former calving shed; has been sympathetically restored and is decorated beautifully.

Very comfortable and lovely place to stay. I had an emergency issue which was solved quickly and Lyn the owner was delightful. Very remote and peaceful. Lovely walks to go on not far away.

Perfect for dogs. Some great places to eat within a short drive. Fabulous walking area

A garden umbrella would have been nice, we were fortunate and had lovely weather and some form of seating on the grass for the lovely shaded areas provided by the tree, elderly people may find it difficult to carry chairs up to the lawn.

But these are really minor points, when talking about “Thorney Tallet”. The cottage is perfect, exceptionally clean and comfortable and a very peaceful and secure garden for our “Murphy” The lounge seating is extremely comfortable as are the beds, and everywhere is very spacious. Thank you for a very comfortable stay, very relaxing.

The cottage was great, location and facilities were wonderful but I have marked down for two reasons.

There were no fans- the cottage was rather hot and in these increasingly hit summers it was so uncomfortable we had to go out and buy a fan to cool the room for the children to sleep. Second was the black leather 3 piece suite in the lounge smelt fairly strongly of cigarettes. As non smokers it was a massive issue for me and I didn't want the children to sit on the sofas without a blanket as it transferred to their clothes and hair. I would strongly recommend it have a through and professional clean befor the next guests as it was rather an uncomfortable issue during the 5 day stay. Apart from that everything else was great.

It's our second visit to Thorny Tallet and we're looking forward to our summer holiday here in August.

A great cottage for a totally relaxing break away.

No phone signal but great WiFi so you can choose your level of connection with the world! Very clean, tidy and well equipped: comfortable beds, log burning fire, underfloor heating and cosy bathroom. The enclosed garden was great for our dog and, although we were only there for the weekend so did not use it, the exercise field behind is a great addition if we had been staying longer. Not too far from Okehampton and some great walks but take care if arriving in the dark as we were; you start to doubt you are on the right route as the tracks get smaller and more rutted! You are and it’s worth it when you arrive!

A lovely cottage with everything we could have wanted.

We had a great time there and would love to go back. Also the green dragon at northlew very friendly and good home cooked food. Only very small(tiny) thing that could have improved it was TV was not smart so couldn't watch prime or Netflix. But this is very minor.

Very cosy cottage.

Log fire was great! Very comfy bed and sofa. Plenty of space for me, my husband, 2 year old daughter and dog (Holly). Holly loved the big garden and use of secure field next to the cottage. Owners were really friendly and were happy to help with anything we needed. Location was great too! Lots of places to travel out too. Highly recommended

The cottage & setting was so beautiful!

! We saw amazing wildlife, including a large deer!! The garden is massive and secure! My 2 huskies had a lovely time just walking in and out at their own leisure, knowing they where safe & secure. On top of that, there was a field on the back of the garden which is for your use to walk the dogs too! It was so quiet, no traffic noises! beds where extremely comfy, it was just sheep and cows all around

We had a fabulous stay the cottage is beautiful and really well equipped.

It is spotlessly clean. Only issue we had is the wi-if is very poor we couldn’t connect most days, we did raise this with the owner who responded very quickly however the connection issues remained.

The cottage had everything we needed. Our dog Lena loved playing in the garden and it was a great to sit outside for breakfast and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Our host's were friendly and helpful. Great to know if we needed anything just to ask. Well appointed for day's out in Devon and Cornwall. A wonderful holiday had by all.

Thorny Tallet is a cottage in a amazing rural setting.

Our main priority is our two dogs and they loved the enclosed garden. The cottage itself was very well equipped, in immaculate condition and very clean when we arrived. We have had many cottage holidays over the years and the cottage and location stand out with this one. We would certainly recommend this property!

Lovely remote, cosy cottage.

Tastefully and comfortably furnished. Well equipped and it was nice to have more than 4 of everything! Both north Cornwall and south Devon/Dartmoor are about 50 min drive so plenty of places to visit. Highly recommend.

An idyllic peaceful cottage in a very rural location.

Ideal for a break away from a busy life. Well stocked with all essentials. Fabulous wild life in the local vicinity. Good WiFi Recommended

Comfortable, enoyable stay

The cottage was spacious and comfortable.

In the main it was very well appointed but as is often the way there were a few issues with things like sharp knives in the kitchen. However when we asked the owner for a replacement bread knife she very swiftly brought us a replacement. The garden was perfect for our dogs and the field behind the house was great for a free run and hide and seek. We would highly recommend the cottage but be prepared for a bit of a hike through some dirty farm yards if it’s wet!

Photographs do not show closeness of neighbour's house or closeness of barn ruins which obscure a wonderful view.

House is at the end of a farm track down a slight hollow and so is fairly sheltered. Underfloor heating keeps house warm and facilities are very good. Garden is dog proof and they loved it.

We had a wonderful stay at Thorny Talley - Thank you to both Lyn & Clive for making us feel so welcome and also providing the perfect cosy retreat from many great Dartmoor dog walking locations, such as Fingle Woods and the various stops near all the Tors on the moors.

The cottage is also not too much of a trek to Bude, Widemouth Bay and other beautiful beaches - Flo (my eldest furry friend) was in her element splashing about in the waves and waddling around on the beach! The log burner gets it really snug downstairs in the cottage at night and when you do finally retreat to the bedroom a good night's sleep is guaranteed. We would highly recommend and happily stay again.

This property is virtually next to the owners house, the advert did not say this, we were very disappointing as we thought we had booked a SECLUDED cottage!

. The upstairs of the property was cold at night and pillows and covers from the twin bedroom felt damp! We ended up all sleeping in the main bedroom, there are signs of orange mould on the twin bedroom ceiling which I have pictures of. However the property was extremely clean and had all the equipment we needed.

This was our second visit to thorny tallett this year.

The cottage was extremely well appointed with everything you need, it was like a home from home.

Our dogs loved the garden and we were lucky enough to be able to sit outside as well in sept . It is very very remote so the silence was lovely.

On first site we were blow away , the looks , just has you go inside its all outstanding by not just how above , what has been spoking about , the cleanness of the place but all the rooms were large , the pictures, you have on your site just dose not give a clear view of how large the building was , Its so peaceful the people Clive and Lyn , were so help full even when I ask them for a better map has to fine places, were themselves outstanding in helping us to get around many places , to go to and the help again was top knowhow to which we thank them , they were just 1 phone call away when even when we were about to run out of logs for the log burner , Lyn was there with all the logs even more logs again thanks Lyn .

It was so relaxing , due to are illness we both have Again to thank Lyn and Clive, went over the mile for us we both thank you to having us to share your lovely home , we got back lot of free space of time to rebuild are strength back . Your 's Steven & Pat

Probably one of the best, if not the best, holiday cottage we've stayed in.

The cottage was clean and well kept. The owners were very attentive and wanted to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. All of that on top of the cottage being located perfectly for visiting the local area, as well as being peaceful and undisturbed. We would have no hesitation in booking this property again.

The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable.

It was also very dog friendly, ie.the stairgate was really good and the garden much enjoyed by our dog. We had a such a lovely peaceful break here and were very sad to leave.

The cottage was lovely, the bedrooms are really spacious and the living room is really cosy with the wood burning fire.

Clive was an excellent host, the cottage is in a great spot and we'd definitely recommend it!

So comfy and cosy after a long day exploring. There was everything you needed at hand. It completely exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be back! We would recommend and definitely use Sykes cottages again.

Fantastic holiday cottage, well equipped and spacious.

We found it perfect to relax and switch off in the peace and quiet of the countryside. Several good places to explore around the area, and we enjoyed some great walks with the dogs on Dartmoor. Would happily return to stay again!

They made every effort to help us make the most of the house, providing us with fuel for the log burning stove, fresh bedding for our second week, and even called round to see how we were settling in! The house was exceptionally clean, very comfortable and beautifully kitted-out and we had an amazing time their making memories as a family. The communication with Sykes was excellent and we really appreciated the effort the company went to to get us in (we booked just two days before the start of the holiday!)
