“A lovely cosy cottage in a wonderful village, we had a fabulous long weekend - thank you.”

The pubs in the village ((Oxenham and Kings Arms) are great and very different to each other, we enjoyed the coffee shop / shop in Sticklepath, the farmers market in South Zeal village, as well as the Taw River pub and the Devonshire in Sticklepath, the Tors Inn at Belstone. Not just pubs(!), we had a great, long walk to the top of Cosdon Hill via the ancient 3 lane burial ground, and a walk around Okehampton and to the amazing Meldon viaduct. Also a day out at Castle Drogo, with a circuit walk ...

The property

Resting just inside the Dartmoor National Park in the small village of South Zeal, Lavender Cottage is a delightful mid-terrace cottage sleeping five guests.

Ideal for a family or group of walkers, Lavender Cottage is perfectly placed for walking in the Dartmoor National Park with easy access to the moors and tors, including Cosdon Beacon and walks along the river to Belstone and its tors and pub.

Venture inside this well-equipped home from home to find a charming sitting room to unwind in with rustic beams, a woodburning stove (first basket of wood included) within the traditional inglenook fireplace, along with comfortable sofas to relax on and a TV.

The kitchen is well equipped with cooking equipment, including a washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and a dining table with bench seating for sociable gatherings and meals.

A door from the lounge conceals the staircase leading upstairs where there are three lovely bedrooms to choose from resting beneath the eaves with sloping ceilings, offering a king-size, a single with a truckle bed which can be a twin, and a single, all boasting pretty décor and served by the bathroom.

Delight in spending time in the enclosed garden where alfresco dining can be enjoyed with a BBQ and outdoor furniture in situ.

The front of the cottage is home to a bench, perfect for sitting with a coffee and watching the world go by in the village.

There are 2 local pubs in the village both serving food.

Nearby Sticklepath has a small shop for basics, a cafe and two pubs.

Okehampton is 15 minutes away by car and has a wider selection of shops including Waitrose, Lidl and Boots, a cinema, a museum and Okehampton Castle.

From Okehampton Railway Station there are hourly services to Exeter.

Cycle hire is also available from the Outdoor Centre (with cafe) by the Station and other outdoor activities available including canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding and golf.

The National Trust's Castle Drogo is nearby with its medieval style property, large grounds and gardens.

There are delightful walks from there to Fingle Bridge and also to Chagford which has market town shops.

The walking from the cottage is superb with plenty of opportunities to see wild Dartmoor ponies, birds, historic stone circles at Hound Tor and Belstone, stone rows at Cosdon, many tors and opportunities for wild swimming. If you get bored with Dartmoor, the city of Exeter is only half an hour away by car and fast roads will take you to the south coast of Devon in an hour (Exmouth or Teignmouth) or the North Cornwall Coast at Bude (36 miles).

Lavender Cottage is perfectly placed for a great holiday in the Dartmoor National Park.
