    • “The cottage was stunning. Refurbished throughout with new bathrooms and kitchen. Comfortable, stylish with everything you need. We enjoyed the bbq outside while the children loved playing in the huge grounds of the main house. A magical place we will be coming back.”

    Mr Fairbrother, Berkhamsted, August 2018

    • “Wow, what a lovely cottage, set in idyllic contryside suroundings. The cottage was equipped with everything you might need from dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. Large lounge with plenty of seating and a well equipped kitchen. We had 7 days of pure r & r.”

    Mr Sliwinski, RINGWOOD, August 2018

    • “Barley House is modern, spacious, quiet, clean and comfortable. It is set in lovely grounds close to the owners house. The owners are very friendly, helpful and keen to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Dogs are made welcome which is great as the standard of other cottages is not always so good when dogs are allowed. Talaton village is small with one shop and a pub which serves typical pub food-generous portions and very friendly staff. There are plenty of other good pubs serving food nearby. It’s a 15-20 mins drive to nice beaches in Sidmouth, Branscombe and Exmouth amongst others. Bikes can be hired at Darts Farm to cycle along the Exe estuary. Our second stay here and hopefully not our last.”

    Ms Sedgewick, London, April 2018

    • “Beautiful house, impeccably designed and decorated, very comfy bed and gorgeous bedding, fantastic grounds for the children to play in, lovely hosts, great pub and shop one minute’s walk away, short drive to lovely villages and beaches. Perfect!”

    Mrs Levitsky, Nottingham, March 2018

The Property

In the heart of Talaton is striking Grade II listed Talaton House, a former rectory, renovated from its 18th cent. origins and surrounded by acres of beautiful parkland and specimen trees. Beside the house, the original stables, groom’s cottage and hayloft have been finely converted with flair into four excellent cottages, all exceptionally well done with smart design, stylish furnishings, oak/tiled floors and sleek kitchens. A sweeping drive (shared with the friendly owners’ main house) leads to the cottages. They all look over scenic parkland alongside the main house and you are welcome to wander the vast lower lawns (picnic benches, barbecue area, dogs on leads welcome) and peaceful circular woodland walk. Groom’s Cottage, Gardener’s Cottage and Barley House each have a gravelled terrace (table/seating) at the front, made private with attractive planting and pleached trees. Loading/unloading outside the cottages; shared parking area, just beyond (10 to 30 yards). An outstanding location; much thought has gone into making these superb places individual, stylish and comfortable.Barley House sits end-of-row with wide, gently sloping paved path/ramp alongside the gravelled terrace (bench, tables/chairs) to front door. Light-filled open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric oven/induction hob) with smart TV/DVD/Blu-ray, wireless speaker and big glazed doors to front terrace. Ground-floor double bedroom (5' bed) and wheel-in shower-room (wet-room suite, overhead and hand shower attachments, grab rails). Upstairs, two further bedrooms, both with apex beams - a double (zip-linked 6' bed or twin) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over three-quarter size bath), and a twin (zip-linkable to 6' double) with en suite shower-room (wet-room suite); upstairs en suites are behind partition walls without ceilings. Smart and comfortable, particularly convenient for those with limited mobility.
