    “Perfect location for our Dartmoor holiday and so many wonderful places to visit, long walks etc within very easy reach.”

    The garden is absolutely wonderful and very peaceful, as is the walk to the private lake. Milk in the fridge on arrival and a delicious lemon cake was much appreciated after a long journey - thank you! The cottage is very well equipped, super comfy beds and good quality bedding. We loved watching the birds who definitely appreciated the supply of peanuts! I do think it’s important to share within the listing that the property is significantly overlooked on one side by another holiday rental, ...

I do think it’s important to share within the listing that the property is significantly overlooked on one side by another holiday rental, which also includes the parking area for the other cottage. This was very busy during our stay (4 cars at one point!) and was challenging with two dogs. We ended up closing the blinds at times which was far from ideal.

    Thank you for bringing to our attention regarding the parking at Chilvery Farm Cottage opposite. Although the information has stated on the website that there is parking for two cars, on this occasion this has clearly not been adhered to. We apologise for this. However, overwhelmingly we have found guests abide by the parking arrangements and are also considerate to other guests. We have now updated the website clarifying the parking limits. Property Owner

The property

A mile from Throwleigh, in the tiny hamlet of East Ash, a beautifully refurbished linhay in a small courtyard of converted farm buildings.

To the rear, a granite-walled, enclosed garden with patio and table/chairs.

In total, about 5 acres of land to wander: track to stream, meadow to pond (your risk), a wonderful place to count dragonflies.

Inside, carefully furnished with lovely fabrics, colours and original paintings: a restful retreat.

Door from shared courtyard to boot room/lobby with small cloakroom (loo, washing machine), good for wet coats and dogs.

Large open-plan living/dining/kitchen (slimline dishwasher, microwave, fridge, electric cooker) with oak floor (rugs), TV/DVD and French windows and steps to the lovely garden.

From the kitchen, stairs (bottom stairgate) up to two bedrooms - a pretty and spacious double with beams and rural views from Velux windows, and a small single with limited clothes-hanging space; smart bathroom (suite plus hand-shower and separate shower).

Pub, 1½ miles.

A charming and accessible base; perfect for walkers.

Throwleigh: little village (pretty church) in lanes below Dartmoor's edge, on the lovely Mariners Way walk.

½ mile to pub, and to open moor; 2 to service station (shop); 5 to Chagford and Okehampton (golf, tennis, indoor pool, leisure centre, cinema).

About the location

THROWLEIGH

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon, Chagford is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a village of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the village as well as an annual running race. Just over 15 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
