About the location

BUCKLAND NEWTON

Dorchester 12 miles; Sherborne 12 miles.

The West Dorset village of Buckland Newton, and its seven surrounding hamlets including Brockhampton, is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of Blackmore Vale, and at the head of the quaintly named Piddle Valley. The village is 12 miles south of historic Sherborne and 12 miles north of Thomas Hardy's Dorchester. Locally there are lovely scenic walks to be had, while a visit to nearby ancient Cerne Abbas is not to be missed, with its instantly recognisable chalk giant and numerous tea rooms and inns serving real ales and good food. Alternatively, travel south to the memorable Dorset Jurassic Coast, now a designated World Heritage Site, where many sandy beaches await you and provide visitors with great facilities for all kinds of water sports. Weymouth offers golden sandy beaches and a bustling harbour from which you can take a day trip to the Channel Islands. A short drive from here takes you to Portland Harbour and the rugged “Isle” of Portland, which is linked to Weymouth by dramatic Chesil Beach. With fascinating Sherborne and bustling Dorchester also just a short drive away, you really are spoilt for choice in this lovely part of Dorset.
