“Staying at Wootton House was a dream come true - used to visiting National Trust properties we were intrigued to be staying in a house with such a rich history.”
We were not disappointed and realty felt we had taken a step back in time ! Some visitors might be put off by the 'frayed edges' but we all agreed they added to the charm and authenticity of the property. What a privilege to stay somewhere with original William Morris wallpaper !!
Initially worried about how the youngest children would cope with such a different property, we had unfounded fears. The owners introduction manual made it obvious that this is first and foremost a family home where children are welcome - and judging by the number of toys and games, children are certainly expected :)
We particularly liked the kitchen (cooking on an Aga for the first time was a wonderful experience) and the cosy lounge where we had a fire each night whilst taking part in quizzes and parlour games.
All family members have been googling to find more info about the Hood family and the history of the house - both the housekeeper and cleaner very kindly shared information freely and it was interesting to hear why certain portraits were hung outside of the main house !!!
At every turn there was evidence of those who had lived here in the past - and we really felt we were living 'an experience' rather than taking a holiday.
Being able to bring all generations together (including the dogs) was wonderful as we were celebrating a special 50th birthday.
Thanks so much for a wonderful time - we'
