“We had a wonderful Christmas stay at Oakapple Cottage.”

The host was extremely accommodating both in the run-up to and during our stay, ensuring we had everything needed to cook Christmas Day dinner. The host was extremely accommodating both in the run-up to and during our stay, ensuring we had everything needed to cook Christmas Day dinner. The property was decorated beautifully, with Christmas trees, lights, and festive details throughout the house. We really appreciated the support in making our stay feel special. With ages ranging from 35 to 90, it was important that everyone felt comfortable — and they absolutely did. The cottage was warm, welcoming, and cosy throughout. The property accommodated nine people perfectly, with plenty of space for us all to sit together in both the living and dining rooms. Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were, and there were no issues at all with bathroom queues. The downstairs walk-in shower was ideal for family members with slight mobility issues, while others were happy using the bath shower. The property is located on a main road, so there is some traffic and occasional queues, but this didn’t cause us any problems. The location is great for walking into Lyndhurst, or hopping in the car to explore the coast and other areas of the New Forest. Overall, it was a fantastic place to stay, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Enjoying a rich royal history is the village of Lyndhurst, known as the capital of the New Forest National Park, frequently visited throughout the centuries by kings and queens thanks to it being established as a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror. Home to quaint Tudor style buildings and a scattering of welcoming pubs and local shops and boutiques, this lovely settlement has everything you need to enjoy a wonderful stay in Hampshire. One of the village's famous residents is Alice Pleasance Liddell, the inspiration behind Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', resting in the graveyard of St Michael and All Angels' Church. Walk up to Bolton's Bench, an elevated spot to perch at and take in the views of the landscape, before visiting the New Forest Heritage Centre offering a history into this spectacular national park with interactive exhibits and exhibitions. Walkers can delight in a great choice of walking routes, start out by exploring the area with a circular walk around Lyndhurst, whilst cyclists can embark on a tour of the park on popular routes like Lyndhurst to Brockenhurst, or over to Hatchet Pond, with bikes available to hire from The Woods Cyclery.
