Oak Cottage

We are a family with 2 teenage girls + aunty and a dog.

In a complex of about 6 cottages that were fully booked, but felt very private. Shared larger garden our cottage was prefect for our requirements with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The girls had a top bedroom accessible by steep stairs. The secluded garden was secure for our mid size dog. The kitchen was well equipped. A hot tub was a real bonus and our girls preferred it to the games room. The location is about 40 minutes to the sea, across some stunning scenery. It’s the perfect place to unwind. We are thinking of returning back the next year.

The property is gorgeous, clean and brilliantly maintained. The welcome basket on arrival is a wonderful touch and so thoughtful. The property owners were very friendly and welcoming and offered some great advice on local places worth visiting. Our kids loved the games room and large field to play in. We didn’t want to leave ❤️

We spent a truly fabulous week in Oak Cottage.

The cottage was beautifully furnished and superbly equipped. We instantly felt at home. The welcome pack, including a lovely cake were very appreciated. We used the amazing hot tub every day. The cottage is so well situated for exploring Exmoor, we walked miles every day. We have no complaints and look forward to returning.

Lovely charming property which is very well kept and clean.

Plenty of space for 5 people and a dog and we really enjoyed the Hot Tub and the games room. It was lovely to receive a welcome gift of a dozen eggs and a chocolate cake - which was delicious. Only down side was the weather - and the narrow lanes to and from the main atlantic highway. Otherwise we had a lovely time and would come again!

Great place and friendly owner even helped jump-start our car, for which we are very grateful!

Everything was spotless and worked well. Left us a beautiful cake. Beautiful views, and a perfect spot to explore North Devon.

Excellent base for exploring the area, and also spending time relaxing at the property and enjoying the hot tub and games barn. Welcome pack was appreciated, also good to have resident owners (not that we had any problems). Recommended.

It’s absolutely beautiful, modern, extremely clean. Extremely well equipped. Beds are extremely comfortable. Damon is a fantastic host with any queries you may have. Wonderful welcome pack awaited us, totally unexpected but very much appreciated. Hot tub is extremely clean and filters are cleaned daily. Beautiful surroundings. The perfect retreat for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. Easy drive to local pubs and shops if you need them. Highly recommended.

Me and 2 friends stopped here from 12th-19tj of may, and all agreed it was a perfect setting.

We then went and seen some beaches and towns around a man hrs drive away, and it blows your mind with how stunning it is. We’ve already said we’ll definitely be back.

A very homely and comfy cottage, with nothing extra needed.

We were blown away by the cottage and would like to thank the owners for the additional touches of the Christmas dec's and welcome basket.

We travelled as a family of 6 adults and found the cottage spacious and well appointed, giving each couple their own space together with good family space. The games rooms and hot tub provided great entertainment for the family and helped us in making our original choice of the cottage. Set in wonderful countryside and yet close enough to the local town with other resorts being easily accessed within a 20 - 60 minute drive obviously depending on where you wanted to visit. We would 100% recommend this wonderful cottage.

We were all blown away by the interior of the cottage even though we had seen photos in the website.

We all loved the hot tub and used it every day, it was so clean and easy to use. The en-suites to each room was wonderful and they were all immaculate with lovely fresh towels to use. The welcome hamper was wonderful as was the cake you left for us, such a lovely personal touch. We ate in for three of the four nights and found everything we needed, a very well equipped kitchen and the appliances were all very clean and good quality items. The only issue we had was identifying the cottage from the road as we were unable to read the sign in the dark. Everything else was perfect and we wouldn’t hesitate to use Sykes cottages in the future. Many thanks

Six of us (three couples) stay at the cottage for a long weekend and really enjoyed our stay.

The cottage was both spacious and cosy at the same time. We would thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay whilst exploring Exmoor

This is the secong time which I have stayed at Oak cottage.

Once more I thoroughly enjoyed it. As an entertaining and cooking venue it is excellent with all the space and facilties you could want.

Some very good features and some not so good - depending on what you value in a property.

Outside- lovely outdoor seating area and immaculate hot tub that was lovely and hot throughout the stay. Decking and some of the furniture needed a clean before we sat on it - not ideal but not the end of the world. Play room was excellent. Generally very quiet so lovely and relaxing (but you are staying on a site with other guests in adjacent properties so potential for noise). Great playing field for the kids. Goals supplied. Indoor - well equipped kitchen with the exception of no tumble dryer and a slimline dishwasher - annoying but again not the end of the world. lounge was lovely although a bit of a squeeze to seat 6 adults. Needed more cooking knives and larger pans - feedback has been provided to the owner so hopefully future guests will benefit from it. Bed mattresses were comfy. Duvets didn't fit the sheets and fitted sheets were not used so if you have bed-OCD then this may be a problem. Showers were electric and had awfully low pressure - probably the most disappointing part of the stay. We had a problem with the freezer and a couple of other niggles that the owner was very quick to react to and solve so kudos where it is due. felt a bit like the property was slightly damp, particularly in the lower bedroom - given this was August, likely that that feel will be worse in winter months. Stairs to one of the bedrooms is VERY steep - as advertised - 60 degrees. Not a problem for us but may be for others so just be aware. Bathrooms were lovely and clean with lots of storage unlike other properties. Narrow lanes to get to the property like a lot of Devon. Ample parking which was great.

Beautiful, immaculately clean cottage with a fabulous hot tub that was checked daily.

Brilliant games room and large field for children to play on. Our group consisted of two grandparents, two grandchildren and their parents. We all had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this property.

The cottage is beautiful and was a lovely home to us for a week.

The photos on the website are very accurate - everything was well maintained with very little signs of wear and tear. Very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. A lovely hamper to get your started (although Sainsburys is less than 15 mins away) plus a tasty locally made cake. The hot tub was well maintained and regularly checked whilst we were there. We hope to return as had a great break.

The Oak Cottage was exactly as advertised and was a perfect layout for our family.

The owners were super friendly and helpful with advice on sites to see. We loved the rural rolling hills setting, definitely would stay again if in Devon.

We came for New Year Eve short break and we loved our stay at the cottage.

Damon and Karen are very welcoming and left a lovely basket on the table Prosseco, and fresh cack which was really tasty. They also left us fresh eggs from the local farm. They provided us with firewood for the fireplace and charcoal for the barbeque which was very nice of them. The cottage was spotless, beautifully decorated, and well maintained and it has everything you need. Hot tub was beautiful and checked daily. Thank you for a lovely stay.

I have never slept in such a comfy bed!! The sofas were really comfy too. Such a lovely place to relax and unwind. The hosts were great and so helpful. I would definitely recommend to others.

We had a lovely stay at Oak Cottage and it's a shame we couldn't stay longer.

The cottage is beautifully decorated with everything you need and it's obvious that a lot thought and care has gone into each detail. The hot tub is lovely anytime of day. The games room and field to play sports is a good distraction for children. The hosts were always on hand when we needed assistance and I look forward to returning with other family members.

Lovely peaceful location.

The cottage was well maintained with good facilities, and everything we needed for a lovely weeks stay. We particularly liked the friendly swifts/swallows which were flying around and nesting under the eaves.

The accommodation was spotless and well furnished. The owners were friendly and the provision of a cake and milk etc on arrival was most appreciated. A very minor issue, but a couple more dishwasher tablets would have been most welcome as we had to buy a whole box for a couple of washes. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We would highly recommend the cottage to all, suitable for both a family or a group of friends.

It had all the essentials and more!! There was nothing we were short of. All 5 of us had the best night sleep on both nights and the comfort of the beds had a lot to do with this. We were amazed at how clean the whole cottage was, the beds were as if it had never been used and the hot tub was extremely clean and well maintained. We would love to come back, and for longer next time!!

We were welcomed with a cake (and Easter eggs).

The cottage was comfortable, clean and warm. We could find everything we needed for cooking. Having access to a game room (table tennis, pool table, ...) was a plus. The owners were very friendly. Damon gave us some good suggestions for walks and provided us with firewood which was very nice of him. We would definitively recommend the Oak Cottage to family and friends.

Overall the stay was lovely with a beautiful location and really stunning converted barn.

The only negative would be water on the walls of the downstairs bedroom behind the bed and damp in the drawers of the same bedroom. The hosts are very welcoming and left a lovely basket on the table with a fresh cake which was really tasty. Also the facilities were well kept and easy to access.

The cottage was amazing, it was so clean I couldn’t fault it.

All the facilities that you need and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The owners live on site and were more than accommodating. Be prepared to drive as it is a little way out and the roads are really narrow so prob not the best for cycling.

One of the BEST cottages we have ever stayed in.

The little welcome gifts were a delight. Everything was so clean and tidy. Amazing! Had the best few days away and will be recommending to friends and family.

Issues with all the showers and if this can be sorted then the rating would be totally different - ability to have a hot shower or bath is a basic requirement.

The property is beautifully furnished and decorated, it is comfortable and practical.

The garden has its own hedge giving privacy when using the glorious hot tub. The owners are friendly and helpful.
