Description

Porlock 0.5 miles.

Woodedge is a delightful mid-terrace cottage tucked away in the peaceful woodland valley of Hawkcombe, just half a mile from the charming village of Porlock in Somerset.

This characterful property is ideal for couples or small families looking for a tranquil rural retreat in the heart of Exmoor National Park.

Surrounded by nature and offering an enclosed garden and traditional features, it’s a welcoming base for walkers, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Enter through stable-style doors into the open-plan living area, where you’ll find a compact but well-appointed kitchen, a small woodburning stove for warmth on cooler evenings, a television for relaxed viewing, and a folding dining table with seating for three.

The interior is simple and inviting, with thoughtful details throughout.

A distinctive wrought iron spiral staircase leads to the first floor, where two comfortable bedrooms—a double and a single —share a bright shower room suite.

Outside, a footbridge over a gentle stream leads to a private enclosed garden with outdoor furniture, ideal for enjoying breakfast in the morning sunshine or a quiet drink in the evening.

Porlock offers a selection of independent shops, traditional pubs, and friendly cafés, all within easy reach.

Local highlights include the scenic South West Coast Path, the picturesque harbour at Porlock Weir, and the ancient woodland of Horner.

Venture further to explore the sweeping moorland of Dunkery Beacon, the postcard-perfect village of Selworthy, or the seaside town of Minehead, home to a sandy beach, heritage railway, and family attractions.

History lovers will enjoy a visit to nearby Dunster Castle and its medieval village.

Woodedge provides a peaceful and well-positioned base for discovering the natural beauty and timeless appeal of Exmoor and the Somerset coast.

Lovely cosy cottage in a great position on the edge of Porlock, with great walking right from the door.

We loved it and would definitely return.

Much smaller than photos suggest.

No grass for dogs in the small "garden". Downstairs blind broken, could not raise it, had to be propped out of the way. Inside the oven, grill element was hanging down and I could not clip it up. Internet router looked like it had been replaced recently but the SID (network name) and password had not been changed to match the instruction book. Fortunately the SID and password printed on the router worked, after which the WiFi was very good. No instructions were given for putting the bins out, so the rubbish, particularly the recycling, built up a lot. Food recycling container had no bag and was disgusting.

We enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful surroundings. Upstairs was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Lovely clean bedding, comfy bed and good shower. We felt the rug in front of the sofa was a real trip hazard. The side was rolling up and needs a check. Perhaps a replacement? It would be helpful if there was more info on re-cycling and collection days. We couldn't use the outside seating as the cushions had been left out and were soaking wet. However, we understand if this had happened the day before we had arrived. We dried them out inside over 2 days. But the peace and quiet was very restful.
