“Very comfortable, clean and private cottage in a quiet village with only the clatter of horses hooves on the road to wake you in the mornings.”

Very well equipped kitchen and a delicious welcome package from our hosts. I highly recommend Long Batch Cottage as a charming base for exploring the West Country.

About the location

DITCHEAT

Shepton Mallet 5.8 miles; Glastonbury 11 miles

Set at the foot of the Mendip Hills AONB, this thriving Somerset village is nestled some five miles south of Shepton Mallet. Boasting a pub and a local shop, Ditcheat is also home to Barber’s cheese dairy and Paul Nicholls’ racing stables. Racehorses are frequently seen passing the cottage on their way to the gallops. Ditcheat village is also within easy reach of Worthy Farm, the Glastonbury Festival site, and the Royal Bath and West Showground, hosting one of Britain's major agricultural shows every year, along with many other events. Shepton Mallet offers a wonderful blend of old and new architecture, as well as a weekly market, a variety of shops, pubs and eateries. Nearby is Wells with its beautiful cathedral; Glastonbury, famous for its festivals; and the charming spa town of Bath, along with many family attractions including Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves and East Somerset Railway. Castle Cary is just south of Ditcheat, lying on the fringes of luscious, green countryside between the Somerset Levels to the West and the ridgeline of Penselwood to the east. It is worth a visit to see its old town centre with buildings such as the Market House, the Round House and the old George Inn, which runs along the foot of steep, grassy Lodge Hill, below where the castle used to stand. Castle Cary hosts a weekly market on Tuesday mornings, ideal for picking up gifts for loved ones, as well as crafts, fresh produce and artisan bread.
