“A fantastic cottage – the photos really don’t do it justice

In fact, I don’t think the photos on the listing really do the property justice – there is so much more to it when you arrive.
Outside is where the property really comes into its own. The garden is large, enclosed and incredibly well equipped, with a hammock, lots of seating, plenty of shade and loads of space for children to explore. It’s also dog friendly. Outside is where the property really comes into its own. The garden is large, enclosed and incredibly well equipped, with a hammock, lots of seating, plenty of shade and loads of space for children to explore. It’s also dog friendly. One small point for owners of smaller dogs: some chicken wire along the bottom of the gate might be useful, as our dog managed to escape when chasing a peacock! We simply laid some chairs along the bottom of the gate afterwards and had no further problems.
There is also an outside WC and a fantastic games room with a table tennis table, dartboard and plenty of other outdoor games, including badminton and tennis. There’s loads of parking too.
Inside, there’s a lovely large hallway leading into a very well-equipped kitchen and pantry. There’s a dishwasher and a large fridge freezer. The fridge light wasn’t working during our stay and one side of the oven didn’t work despite following the instructions, so I suspect there may be a fault with the oven.
There’s a huge dining table, as well as a sofa and TV, and this actually became one of our main areas for socialising when we weren’t outside. There’s also a downstairs toilet with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The main lounge is large and comfortable, with two very comfy sofas, a great TV and loads of games. There’s also a piano, which the children absolutely loved.
Upstairs, all of the bedrooms lead off a long hallway. The bathroom is large and has a bath with shower over it. The water pressure wasn’t fantastic, but it was perfectly adequate for our stay.
The children’s bedroom has bunk beds and a chair, along with plenty of things to keep them entertained. The next bedroom is beautiful, with a lovely metal double bed and very high-quality bedding. The final bedroom has a larger-than-double bed, possibly a king, and lots of natural light. Again, the bedding was excellent quality.
There is also so much to do in the surrounding area. We visited Charmouth Beach, Lyme Regis, Taunton and Montacute House, as well as doing plenty of local walks. The nearby park is absolutely huge and has loads for children to do.
A particular mention has to go to The Hatch Inn, which we visited three evenings. We’d read some of the reviews saying it wasn’t very good, but honestly, we found those reviews completely at odds with our experience. The food was brilliant, and the landlady and landlord were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had the burger twice in a row because it was so good, while the kids loved the ham and chips. We also went for their pizza night on Thursday and the pizzas were excellent. The cakes and coffee from the café were amazing too, and the sausage rolls were incredible.
Overall, we were genuinely so impressed with Quist Cottage. It’s a brilliant property for families, groups and dogs, with plenty to do both inside and outside, and a great base for exploring Somerset and the Jurassic Coast.
The owners should be incredibly proud of what they’ve created here. We’d happily come back and would definitely recommend Quist Cottage to others.
