“Rose Cottage is a lovely characterful holiday home, cosy, clean and comfortable.”
It is situated in a very quiet lane yet close to main roads for easy access in all directions. Sue and Phil are very friendly and helpful and came the next day to sort out a problem with the heating thermostat; whilst there Phil also did a couple of maintenance jobs we pointed out to him. The cottage is much more spacious than shown in the photos - in fact, the photos don't do it justice at all. The cottage is much more spacious than shown in the photos - in fact, the photos don't do it justice at all. The lounge is colourful and cosy, the kitchen and utility room have all the equipment you could want, it's great having a kitchen/diner separate from the living room with two TVs, and also two bathrooms is a bonus. Be aware that there are 5 steps down and 5 up from 2 of the bedrooms to the bathroom, so anyone with mobility problems, for example balance problems at night when visiting the toilet (me), would want to sleep in the third (single) bedroom, which is right next to the bathroom. Yes the lane is very narrow and bendy but we managed okay in our Skoda Roomster. The exit on to School Lane is quite scary as vision is very restricted by parked cars.
We visited the Fleet Air Museum, Forde Abbey, Ham Hill and lovely Sidmouth, all reasonably close. Chard has a good selection of shops and the Old Poppe Inn was excellent.
We definitely highly recommend Rose Cottage as a base for visiting Somerset, Dorset and Devon.
