Description

About a mile from South Petherton, in the smaller village of East Lambrook (pub, manor house gardens with snowdrop and national geranium collections, plant nursery, tea room, gallery), a neat, detached cottage, beautifully converted from stables with big arched windows and beams. Across the gravelled drive, the owners’ 17th cent. thatched farmhouse and charmingly planted walled garden where you have a sitting-out area (table/chairs) and, a little further along the drive, use of an orchard for picnicking (picnic bench). From drive (sunny bench, occasional horses passing), 2 steps up to arched doors to smart kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, small freezer, fridge, gas hob/electric oven) with flagstone floor and breakfast table/chairs. Study/dining room with flagstone floor. Oak-floored living room (TV/DVD) with lovely old Knole sofa. Stairs up to a roomy double bedroom (5' bed, TV) furnished with fine period fabrics; bathroom (suite with roll-top bath and separate shower). Ready meals available. No children, except pre-crawling babies. A stylish, comfortable base, well placed for numerous houses, gardens and churches of interest.

South Petherton: biggish village (pubs, shops, excellent deli/café, medieval church, mountain bike track) in the heart of the 'Hamstone country'. Within 4 miles are Montacute, Barrington Court, Tintinhull (beautiful houses/gardens), East Lambrook (enchanting cottage garden), Ham Hill (superb views, walks, Iron Age fort). Easy access from A303/M5. Nearest coast (Bridport, Lyme Regis), 20 miles.

Très bon accueil de la part de Vivienne.

Le cottage est vraiment très cosy, superbement meublé et équipé, rien ne manque. Il est idéalement situé dans cette magnifique région. Nous nous y sommes senti très heureux.

Pittards Farm Cottage was a lovely break and is a perfect base to tour the Somerset and Devon areas.

We were warmly greeted by Viv and Huw who are a lovely couple and they confirmed that the places we wanted to see (Dunster Castle, West Somerset Railway, Bishop's Palace etc) were really good. The cottage is very well equipped with all items that you may need for your stay (but no DVD player - too tired to view a DVD anyway!). It was a lovely stay and helped make the trip well worth while. We did visit the local Rise and Crown pub just minutes away and the food and service was very good. If you wanted to eat at the cottage, the nearest large supermarket is in Yeovil (18 mins away) but there are local shops within a short drive. Highly recommend staying there and we will return if we visit the area again.

What an absolute treasure we found in Somerset.

Just back from a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage. The owners are so accommodating and welcoming, and they have created a wonderful environment for a restful and luxurious break. The cottage is equipped to a very high standard and is situated in a quiet friendly village with an excellent pub within walking distance. Highly recommended for a fabulous staycation in the beautiful English countryside.
