“The house has so much potential but small things added up to take away from it all.”

Leaked below radiator in downstairs toilet and no hot water which your aware of but we were not! Yellow staining and bubbling paint on living room ceiling from a previous leak your answer we dont decorate between every visit. It was an old leak and should of been rectified or us I formed. Cooker extractor hood hanging off the wall cleaners words not to worry been hanging off the wall for a while if it falls we will compensate you. Table cloth falling to pieces entrance mats falling apart and ...

Table cloth falling to pieces entrance mats falling apart and fraying. Hallway light not working cleaner sent didnt replace i found one in a cupboard and replaced myself. Bed pillows yellow as hell no stain covers pillows were replaced on the second day of our visit great but get some pillow protectors basic practice. We also were not told someone was on their way with pillows so were in minehead when I was contacted to say they'd been left outside the property for us. If we knew someone was coming I would of stayed. One wall had what looked like coffee over it and their were cobwebs everywhere yes a cleaner was sent but all they did was remove a fraying mat. No additional cleaning took place and no one followed up to check it was ok. Second night I took a shower and removed massive amounts of someone else's hair from the bath plug that smelt rancid. The glass shower seal had also broke and was full of black mold.

“Great little cottage, convenient location.”

Great to be right by the car park with one free parking permit and free overnight parking. Everything you need, comfy beds, good linens and towels. Near to shops, cafes, bus stop, quay etc. safe gated community.

“The property was spotlessly clean, kitchen, bathroom, cloakroom, bedrooms etc.”

absolutely excellent. However this was to a certain extent let down by a number of issue, mostly minor... Downstairs cloakroom no hot water, the hot tap was non functional and there was a puddle under the radiator. In the kitchen the Extractor Hood over the Hob was broken and detached on one side. These are minor issues which the owner can fix easily. More irritating was the Parking Fine I received the first morning, even though I had asked the owners to arrange a weekly permit, however this was resolved after a couple of phone calls

“Inside very clean , cosy , comfortable , well equipped with everything we needed .”

Extras such as DVDs , books, games . Outside at the front the communal area looked a bit scruffy and the back patio area needs a good weeding . A good location in the middle of Watchet, plenty of eating places . Watchet is a lovely little harbour town . Lots of places to visit nearby . We would recommend.

“I have been to Watchet many times and thoroughly enjoyed it thanks to Sykes Cottages however arriving at The Malt House we were absolutely disgusted with the entrances to the courtyard.”

Weeds were growing as high as ones waist. This problem has not been addressed since I was last there in October when I bought the issue up in my last review. So i decided to tackle the chore myself. I cleared the jungle no chemicals or flames involved. Which brings me to the front door , needs varnishing and a new mat. These issues have been mentioned by other clients. Indoors was good as ever except the hot tap in the lower cloakroom which I reported as leaking last time I stayed there. It was now fixed. The water supply was turned off at the isolator valve. Besides all that we will be going back thoroughly enjoyed it,even in the rain.

“Unfortunately this was not the relaxing break I had hoped for.”

On arrival it was clear that there was no heating or hot water. After the first day I also found a parking ticket on my windscreen as the parking permit was not in place. I would say that the property is in serious need of some TLC. The front door is scratched and faded; there is mould around some of the windows; cushions and throws smell fusty; and one window blind is broken. Finally, the information booklet does not seem to have been updated for some years.

“Cosy house in convenient location.”

However, the drawbacks were lack of wifi provision until the 4th night, two cleanliness issues - the bathroom basin was clogged with hair and the pillows were stained, and maintenance is required on bathroom plug mechanism and shaver point not working. Maybe trivial but it dropped our score from a 5 to a 3

“When entering into the complex the security gate can be a little temperamental especially in the dark as it is when leaving.”

Outside the cottage weeds and moss is growing in the path making it look rather unsightly and unkempt. Once inside the property it was as it always has been perfect . Our stay was quiet and very relaxing.

it was equipped with everything we needed for our stay and was well maintained and clean.We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard quite a bit as it was hot while we stayed there. The situation was great, so close to the harbour - it made for very pleasant evening wanders.

“Initial reaction on entering the gated area was disappointment.”

It all looked scruffy and uncared for. This sets the mood for everything else. The weeds were terrible and it all looked unloved. Many small snags also put a downer on the stay. The central control switch for the cooker is broken, the taps drip and swivel when turned off, the shaving mirror light didnt work, etc etc. Small item that took the edge what was so nearly a lovely stay. Furnishings and fittings were good, comfortable and generally very clean. Sort the snags and a small input would create far better reviews.

“Had to Clean and Bleach Ground floor Cloakroom floor because of strong Urine smell.”

Spent 2 hours having to Unblock and Clean Bath plughole as water just would not drain away, still was not draining correctly. Although the water pressure was extraordinarily low in the shower, the bath still filled up and and backwashed the contents of the drain into the bath. Very unpleasant. Bathroom sink taps both Loose. Second Bedroom double bed is not a double and certainly not suitable for two adults. Patio/Yard Door lock very stiff and awkward. However the property is in a good location and Central to Watchet

In a quiet secure gated section smack in the centre of town. Complimentary parking in the adjacent central public car park. An ideal base for exploring all that Somerset and North Devon have to offer. Everything ticked and does what it says on the tin.

“Very nice modern holiday cottage right in the centre of Watchet.”

Property had been well prepared and was pleasant to go into. Had all the features and facilities you could expect and as described. Communication with owner was good and we had a nice break there. Watchet is a nice coastal town and everything is within a few minutes walk of the property. Lots of coast and countryside walks nearby.

“We were really disappointed on arrival with the front of house, it is very scruffy (weeds/door/dirty windows).”

Thankfully the sofa and bed were comfortable, and we were happy with many of the kitchen facilities. After a day or so however we soon found that there were some other issues which we don't expect from a Sykes property, the lounge floor hadn't been cleaned, the bath didn't drain so we showered in a few inches of water each day, the bath felt unstable, and the bathroom blind didn't work. The cottage felt very tired, and lacking in basic cleanliness.

“Excellent location and proximity to the shops for provisions.”

Very well-equipped kitchen. Good to have three televisions. Grateful for the games supplied as these were invaluable on the day when the snowy weather kept us indoors. Double bed in second bedroom was a bit on the small side. Storage was limited and the wardrobe in master bedroom had to be shared. This wouldn't have been a problem for family occupancy. Loose toilet seat in bathroom, which had been mentioned by previous occupants, had still not been fixed. There is no excuse for this. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though, being off-season, many attractions were still closed.

“After many years of short and long stay holidays and business stay aways, I feel the accommodation at 7 Malt House Close was well placed and equipped, however the maintenance and cleanliness was disgraceful.”

The urine smelling bathroom, the broken WC seat, the the rotting front door threshold, the weeds and filthy windows. Etc. Is not acceptable. I'm saddened to report this as feed back when in all honesty these issues are failings of basic standards expected.

“I would not recommend for four adults.”

The second bedroom is very small and the bed pushed against the wall. Suitable for a couple and a single adult or a couple and children. The cottage living space is small but comfy and all fixtures and fittings etc good quality. Good location and free parking a bonus. I thought the previous reviewer who talked about the plonk might have been a bit precious, we all drink plonk at times, but no this was plonk £4. a bottle, we did not open it. I did laugh when we went to wash up and found the fairy had been so diluted down it was like water.

“Small but comfortable property with brilliant location.”

Had several issues with cleanliness in order to have less impact on our stay we resolved this ourselves. The main complaint was the entire laminate floor being filthy. Photos were sent & videos offered to show the level of dirt although Sykes apologised & said that they would have sent a cleaner if we would have reported it straight away. Other than being told they would pass it on to the owner we have heard nothing since. Towels & linen were extremely clean, just feel more attention needed in other areas. Outside area was very dirty so was not used.

“The property location was perfect for our requirements, enhanced by the free parking permit.”

It gave easy access to enjoy the friendly Watchet activities eg live music, welcoming pubs, shops and cafes. Property was comfortable, clean, well equipped and the owners very helpful. Exploring further afield was enhanced by the free parking permit in the adjacent car park.. With regard to the accuracy of the listing mark. Not serious but we did find it was not totally clear and needed some small clarification. All was well and would happily book again through Sykes

“Warm & cosy.”

Quiet location but central to Watchet, perfect for us. Sheets in second bedroom were bit stained and a few cobwebs here and there. But generally clean. Good selection of books, guides and maps. Would certainly book this cotrage again.

Perfect for a family getaway any time of year, 7 Malt House Court offers a cosy dwelling to return to after a day of exploring the unspoilt countryside and coastline.

Watchet is a delightful, small Somerset harbour town with a maritime history going back over two millennia, where visitors may enjoy the variety of quaint shops on offer and watch the boats in the marina. Watchet attracts railway enthusiasts from all around, as The West Somerset Railway, twenty miles of preserved steam railway, passes through Watchet and continues through stunning scenery to the coastal town of Minehead, approximately nine miles away. There are superb walks along the coast from Watchet, while towards St Audries in the east, the Quantock Hills rise to 1,000 feet above the sea and the Brendon Hills and Exmoor are to the west, within easy reach.
