Zeal Cottage

Chris and Di were wonderful hosts.

We enjoyed seeing them and their two friendly dogs going about the place. They left us a well thought out welcome pack, offering choices to personalise it. We were left feeling that our enjoyment of our stay was important to them. The cottage itself is very nice, comfy and clean. The kitchen is very well equipped although there is no allotted cupboard space to store food items, just the fridge freezer and a bread bin. You could shift things about if it really bothered you though. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of space to store clothes and things in the bedrooms. The bathrooms were nicely clean but we did experience some issues with the toilets. It seemed a previous guest had flushed wipes causing a partial blockage which caused flushed waste from one toilet to appear in the other toilet. We just flushed both toilets and things were improved. Hopefully this was a problem other people won’t suffer. Owing to a heat pump going down, we lost our hot water for some days. Our hosts were quite upset that it had happened and gave us access to the annex of their house so that we could shower there. The heat pump was awaiting the engineer when we left, so hopefully is now sorted. The floors of the cottage are, like many holiday lets, uncarpeted. Obviously this is great for cleaning issues and very practical for the owners. However, it does mean that sound from above or below travels to the opposite appartment. It is fair to say that once the toilet and water issues were sorted out, we would cheerfully stay here again. Just an advisory, in case of nervous drivers, there are narrow single track lanes all around the area generally, like most of the rural parts of Devon. However, if you’re looking for a quiet place, away from towns and city life, this is perfect.

Owners Chris and Di have got this absolutely right, they are friendly and helpful whilst allowing you to feel at home in their cottage. The finishing touches show they have thought of everything. The cottages itself is faultless, clean, comfortable and the setting is idyllic. Thank you very much

A very well presented cottage which was well equipped with everything you would need.

The welcome pack was very welcomed, the fresh flowers were a nice touch. Chris and Di were very accommodating and made us feel at home. Highly recommended

This is a lovely property and we had a great week.

The owners were really nice and there were many thoughtful touches in the property. Well worth a visit but be aware roads to it are narrow.

Enjoyed our stay at Zeal Cottage.

The owners were very welcoming and the cottage is lovely. The welcome pack was very thoughtful and much appreciated. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to provide everything you could require. The only downside was the lane to the cottage which had some deep ruts, but if you went over the bridge, there was a much better route which was slightly longer but easier on the car.

A fabulous property in an idyllic location - hearing the lambs and the stream running close by was wonderful.

Beautifully presented and so very comfortable. All home comforts thought of. Thank you both for a wonderful week and especially for the very generous welcome pack. Highly recommended. Hope to return again soon.

My wife and i had a great stay at Zeal cottage, we appreciated the welcome pack that Di and Chris provided it was over and above what any one could expect, over all a very enjoyable time.

Great escape nice and quiet just what we needed. Place clean, tidy and well equipped. Clearly one to be recommended.

Lovely stay at a lovely cottage.

Not the easiest access by car down the lane to the cottage, despite beeing really careful still scraped the underside of thr car but this wasn't a problem as we went in and out the longer way round there after. Lovely welcone pack. Everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. River running alongside was lovely to hear whilst lying in bed. All in all a fantastic stay, thank you.

Of the four cottages we holidayed via Sykes, this is the best.

Very comfortable, well furnished, tastefully decorated. Incredible Welcome pack. The only negative is the road leading down to Zeal Cottage. Single narrow lane, three very bad potholes, and if you met another car approaching from the other end, then a difficult reversal. Awaiting Council repair.

A lovely cottage in quiet and peaceful surroundings, with just the sound of birds and the river flowing outside; and the window seat in one of the bedrooms was a great place to enjoy both.

The two en-suite shower rooms were great to have, and underfloor heating so comfortable. Centrally placed in Devon to be able to visit many of the surrounding areas and places of interest. A great stay.

This was a spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean cottage.

It was in a beautiful and quiet rural setting but very close to local facilities, main roads and a train line to Barnstable and Exeter. Our hosts were very welcoming, provided a thoughtful welcome pack and were on hand if we needed anything.

The house is beautiful and despite it raining every day, we made sure to get out for some lovely walks and enjoyed the scenery that surrounds the cottage. Di and Chris are lovely hosts and clearly care about their guests. We will definitely come back! Thank you

Zeal Cottage is beautifully maintained, positioned and is really home from home.

The facilities are all extremely good quality and perfect for a group of 4, with plenty of open and airy space in the living/dining/kitchen areas and both the en-suite bedrooms. The laundry facitilies are excellent too and parking very easy. We stayed for 3 weeks and it was absolutely easy living for the whole time. The grounds are amazing, the peace is incredible and Di and Chris made us feel so welcome and at home, especially with an abundant welcome pack when we arrived. The cottage position is very central in Devon to allow access to the whole area of the county and Crediton is very handy for all things needed (car is essential). Lovely pubs, walks and scenery. Thank you Di and Chris for such a wonderful holiday experience and I have no hesitation in highly recommending a stay at Zeal Cottage.

This is an amazing cottage in a beautiful secluded location.

Very close to Dartmoor and also accessible to both north and south coast. The cottage itself was very clean and had everything you could possibly need in terms of appliances, utensils, towels, even down to toiletries etc. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch with so much in and the flowers were a special touch. A good seating area outside with table and chairs was also available and use of the laundry room. It was very spacious and comfortable. Di and Chris were amazing hosts. It was such a pleasure to meet them and their beautiful dogs who are full of fun. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Highly recommended.

The place was by far the best we've stayed in, exceeding expectations.

Lovely accommodation, very comfortable and well equipped plus a lovely location.

I would say though unless you have a high vehicle I would avoid following the owners directions as our Car grounded on the road going in on the lane leading to the property from the left, coming in from the right over over the small bridge was much better. Although there was a great external Laundry room there were steep stairs leading to it, would recommend walking round by the public footpath near the river to get to it. Plus no local walkable train station or shops, you need a car to get anywhere and most attractions were at least an hour/ hour and half away. Otherwise lovely hospitable owners and friendly dogs.

Chris and Di were so helpful. It was a very peaceful setting and the surrounding area was lovely, lanes very narrow, but soon get used to driving in rural Devon.

Bi folding doors opening onto sheltered patio. So peaceful and tranquil within easy access to Dartmoor and Exeter or seaside resorts. Friendly helpful hosts and the welcome pack of goodies was appreciated. If you want peace surrounding by nature this is the ideal place to stay.

Unfortunately it was minus eight so as it’s heated by heat pump we had no heat or hot water on several days.

Di did provide heaters after she came back from London and we could have showered in their annex. They both were very apologetic. The cottage was clean and well equipped. I did put it to Di that a focal fire under the tv would make it look cosier in winter. We did have a good time and hopefully will see them again.

We found the settee too low, otherwise could not fault it.

Cottage was spotless and well equipped, everything was top quality.

Di and Chris made us feel very welcome and the welcome pack was well received. The beds were comfy and Wifi signal was good. Their two dogs are a joy to see, always wagging their tails and hoping for an apple to be thrown.

It’s a lovely, immaculately clean place.

Much consideration had been put in place to ensure a comfy stay. Things like 1. Bath sheets instead of towels, in 2 colours so there was never a need to remember whose towel it was used by 2. A welcoming pack of essentials on arrival. Very much appreciated. 3. Kitchen is well equipped even with dishwashing detergent and tablets. Little stuff like that makes it feel just like home. 4. Peaceful and tranquil rural location. Nice to get away from the crowd. If we were to travel around that area again, we would love to stay in this place again. It’s a perfect 10 from us.

The cottage is extremely comfortable. The roads leading to it are narrow so follow their directions, not your sat nav! We would certainly visit again.

Our second time at Zeal Cottage.

Spotless clean, warm, comfortable and welcoming as we remembered from our first visit. Even though the weather was not the best (3 storms in one week!!) we still discovered may different places around that beautiful area (Fingle bridge, Dartmoor national park...). Very pleasant and relaxing stay.

Everything was just perfect and clean. The hosts Di and Chris, are very freindly and approachable. All the facilities you can want and more. If you want a quiet break away from the ratrace this is the place for you.

Di and Chris were lovely hosts, welcoming us with a really clean cottage containing all the necessities you would need for your WHOLE stay (toilet paper, shower gel, hand soap, kitchen roll, tissue boxes, tablets for dishwasher, kitchen towels etc).

A lot of attention has been put in the kitchen utensils (all sort of dishes to cook and bake, plastic containers, measuring cup, cheese grater, foil paper etc). The towels were incredibly soft and thick, the pillows and mattresses were soooo confortable, we are now thinking of changing our own to get a better sleep! There were a laundry room with 2 washing machines and 2 dryers, which made washing clothes so efficient! We had a beautiful bouquet of white roses, a bottle of home made apple juice, rose, eggs, butter, bread, coffee/tea and milk when we arrived, so thoughtful! We can only recommend Di and Chris’ cottage, you will have a good rest all along!

Zeal Cottage is a lovely high spec property to stay in.

Newly refurbished it is beautifully and sympathetically furnished in keeping with the age of the building The owners are welcoming and friendly and provide a lovely and extensive welcome pack.

Chris and Di were lovely hosts and went all out to make us feel welcome and were extremely helpful through out the week when needed.

The Cottage was immaculately clean on our arrival and was well kitted out, the beds very comfortable, showers good, kitchen well thought out. The cottage is a true country retreat surrounded by stunning countryside, when to step outside the only thing you can hear is the steam and maybe a cow or two in the distance. Highly recommenced!!

Chris and Di hosted a great property in a great location for our stay.

The property space,facilities and friendly hosts including their dogs made sure we had all we needed. Used as a base to explore Devon and North Cornwall with the added advantage of a secluded home base.

Lovely clean cottage with everything you need for a self catering holiday.

Extra touches such as fresh flowers and welcome pack were very welcome. A beautiful peaceful location, ideal for both north and south Devon coast. Finally the hosts Chris and Di were really friendly and welcoming and were on hand if needed.

The cottage is very tastefully decorated and was spotless. If you are looking for peace and quiet this cottage is ideal. It is remote but ideally located to explore the surroundings and both coasts in Devon. We highly recommend this rental.

We really enjoyed our short break in Zeal Cottage.

Di and Chris were extremely welcoming and helpful during our stay. The cottage is in beautiful , peaceful countryside. The cottage is very modern and comfortable and well equipped. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting peace and quiet.

Fantastic cottage absolutely immaculate!

! Lovely welcome pack and lots of extras left for us. Friendly owners and walks from cottage door. Large clean laundry room. The bedrooms were great with comfy beds.

The apartment was lovely and fully equipped with all the essentials you needed, a lovely setting in the valley next to the river and there was a public footpath as well so you could go for a walk.

Di and Chris were lovely hosts and friendly dogs to greet us.A few good eating out places nearby as well.

What can we say di and Chris met us on arrival Di helped to unload the car allowed me to store the roof box.

In a secure place showed us around the cottage as we arrived about 6 30 pm. They suggested a pub for evening meal. Chris and Di were all ways available for advice on places to visit best pubs to eat. And anything we needed to make our holiday a success.. The welcome pack and fresh flowers that was in the cottage on arrival was very welcoming. Fantastic cottage lovely location easy access to all areas wouldn't hesitate to book the cottage again if we're back in Devon

If there is such a thing as 5 star self catering this has to be it.

Excellent facilities, beautiful setting, peace and quiet away from it all. Our hosts were most accommodating and always there if help was needed. Will we return,most definitely.

Fantastic cottage, best equipped with everything in top quality with super-nice hosts.

Average 45 mins to go to either north or south sea shores so very central yet quite & tranquil.

I've been struggling to think if there is anything else i can add that hasnt already been mentioned!

Chris and Di are wonderful, friendly, welcoming hosts with a fantastic knowledge of the area. We had an amazing few days bodyboarding at Saunton Sands on Di's recommendation. The cottage was spotlessly clean, equiped with everything we needed, in a beautiful, peaceful location and we had a welcome pack and fresh flowers waiting for us on our arrival. We found the location perfect to explore many other beaches and we visited the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth. After a busy day out and about it was wonderful to return to the calm surroundinds and listen to sound of the river and the wind in the trees. Our holiday at Zeal cottage was just so perfect that we didn't want to leave! It is by far the best holiday we have ever had. We all loved meeting Cassie and Purdy who were just as friendly and welcoming as Chris and Di. Thank you for such a lovely holiday, i know that we will find it extremely hard to find anything as special.

Beautiful cottage down some very small country lanes.

Fantastic base to visit most of Devon an hours drive will get you to beaches either on the west or south coast. We all had an amazing week.

Chris and Di are wonderful hosts. The four of us, two elderly couples, have been holidaying together for many years, and have unanimously agreed that this cottage is the best that we have ever stayed in.

The cottage was exactly as listed.

The owners were so considerate and the Welcome Pack list they sent us before the holiday so that we had exactly what we liked was wonderful and the first one we have experienced. Such a calm and peaceful place. We would not hesitate to go back.

Just spent a week at Zeal Cottage.

Very well equipped, well furnished and decorated cottage. The owners are very helpful, with great directions and arranging a welcome pack in advance of arrival. There is now a wooden fence, which creates a more private seating area outside the cottage but still allowing space for a car to be parked the other side of the fence. The most noise you will hear is the birds singing and the gentle babble of the nearby river. Zeal Cottage is a little oasis of calm and quiet - a perfect bolt hole.

We had such a wonderful time at Zeal Cottage last year we returned again this year.

And... we were not disappointed. Di and Chris are such lovely people, they make us feel so welcome. The cottage is decorated beautifully, home from home. There is plenty of information regarding local shops, services and things to do. There was a grass feature added to the courtyard this year which was great. The children loved playing on this. Zeal Cottage, in a nutshell, a spotlessly clean, well equipped, spacious, comfortable cottage set in peaceful beautiful surroundings.

The owners have given much thought in providing everything we could need to make our stay very enjoyable, including a very generous tailor made Welcome Pack and fresh flowers. Although for us, it was more than that, what made it special was owners Di and Chris's very warm welcome and friendliness, icing on a cake that was already delicious !

We had a great time and felt very comfortable. Also our son had a lot of fun and even learned to walk there. The hosts are very friendly and helpful.

There is now a Fence around the outside of the concrete area so the outside is more private.

You can sit outside as there is now a table and 6 chairs. The outside is going to have decking put down. There is still room to park the car outside the cottage. This is a lovely cottage with lovely hosts who supplied a welcome pack. We would go back again.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay here.

I would highly recommend this cottage, I don’t have enough nice things to say about it. It’s finished to an exceptional standard. Incredibly clean and so well equipped. We couldn’t have asked for more, very friendly owners and probably the best cottage we’ve ever stayed it. We’re already looking at booking for next year and recommended to friends.

Excellent property and one of the best we have ever used over many years of self catering accommodation.

The hosts were above expectations, after using three other properties in other areas before this one and cannot recommend this property highly enough. Very good value for money. Best of all there were no stairs.

A warm friendly welcome from Chris, Di and their lovely dogs was the start to a great stay at Zeal Cottage.

The accommodation has been finished to a very high modern standard with all rooms having plenty of space and storage and felt very homely. It's situated in a lovely setting of an old vin yard with Chris and Di's beatifull thatched cottage at the top of the drive and lovely gardens and surrounding countryside. There is a well equipped large laundry room adjacent which is accessed by some steps. In brief, a modern accommodation in beatifull surroundings run by a lovely couple, we didn't want to leave.
