What guests are saying
We found the Cider Press to be clean and well equipped.
However our only complaint was that we were very cold as the owners controlled the heating which was on timer twice a day ,very early in the morning and from 7 to 11 in the evening.
We're delighted that you found The Cider Press clean and well equipped! I'm sorry that you felt cold on arrival (it is a central system but with your own thermostat in the cottage) - the weather has been so changeable recently! But, as soon as you contacted us we extended the morning heating and the afternoon to 5.30 to 11pm which seemed to suit!
Not great, decided to come home after 2 days.
Very small, no secure area for the dog and walking anywhere was like taking your life into your hands as there are no pathways.
We are fortunate to have had many wonderful guests that return over and again and enjoy both the cottage and this beautiful part of Dorset. We are most surprised at this review. The cottage is exactly as represented in the comprehensive photos (along with the size) and we try our best to ensure that our guests are comfortable. We are always available to help with queries during a stay. Had you contacted us, we would have told you about the excellent footpaths and dog walks that are on our doorstep along with the highly-regarded dog-friendly pub across the lane and other local attractions, as well as those further afield. I'm unclear about your comment about pathways - we are based on a rural lane with grass verges which is quite to be expected in the countryside.
Excellent accommodation ideally located to tour all the amazing sights in nearby Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset.
Very well maintained, clean and comfortable with all the facilities you need for your stay. Good parking and decent pub just over the road which has a good range of beers and food on the menu. Nearby Shaftesbury has a nice range of shops and eating places to try. The property is situated in Motcombe a nice friendly and welcoming village, close to the A30,A303,A350.Would recommend this property.
Thank you so much! We're absolutely delighted that you enjoyed your stay at The Cider Press and all the lovely things to see and do in and around our local area and further afield!
Lovely location, peaceful, clean and comfortable.
Want to go again!
Thank you so much! We're so pleased that you enjoyed staying at The Cider Press, and we would be delighted to see you both again!
Very helpful hosts: responded quickly to queries.
Lovely location and convenient pub across the road. Quiet location with stunning views. Recommend guests look at the sky on clear nights as the stars are so vivid and beautiful with little light pollution to obscure them.
Thank you so much! We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay at The Cider Press and the lovely countryside and local amenities that are near by. The skies are wonderful on a clear night!

Great place to stay , would stay again , only chritism is be being on a main road and dog friendly, maybe put some wire around the railings to make more secure for dogs , other than rest a great place and friendly host .
Thank you so much! We're delighted that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed all the marvellous things to do in the area and hopefully all the lovely dog walks, especially at Win Green, Fontmell and Mere Downs and more locally off the lane to the meadows. Thanks too for that note, we do hope to add some additional fencing in the future when we can!
Lovely place.
Peaceful.
Thank you so much! We're delighted that you had a lovely, peaceful stay at The Cider Press!
Lovely quiet property with excellent cleanliness and comfortable beds with quality bedding and towels.
Photo of property actually shows 3 properties which we didn't realise until we arrived. Although property is small, it is adequate for 3 people. Any issues were dealt with quickly.
Thank you so much! We're delighted that you had a lovely stay and found The Cider Press clean, comfy and quiet!
2nd stay at this lovely cottage in the beautiful setting of Motcombe, Dorset.
It is a superb location for touring Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset. There is a nice pub opposite the location supplying good beer with a decent food menu. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay, was clean, tidy and well maintained.
Thank you so much! We're delighted that you had a lovely stay and enjoyed all the marvellous things to do in the area, there really is a lot to see and do! It's lovely that you visited us for a second time and we hope to see you again!
Very nice cottage and extremely clean with comfy beds.
The owner left teabags, coffee etc but we didn't use them as I had brought some just in case there were none there. It was a nice touch though. Well sited for visiting the area with plenty of nice dog walking routes.
Well presented barn conversion, conveniently situated to access places of interest.
Quiet position on outskirts of village with eating pub a matter of 50 yards on opposite side of the road. Enjoyed our stay.
The cottage was lovely and very clean.
Their gesture was great for our arrival very thoughtful a pint of milk in the fridge with tea, coffee and sugar all there so we could have a drink straight away. They provided everything we needed even down to some games to play. We had a very nice stay in the cottage.
The Cider Press We really enjoyed our week’s stay at the Cider Press, Coppleridge and wish it could have been longer!
The well laid out property, all on one level, was beautifully clean and attractive. The beds, the sofa and chair were really comfortable. The heated towel rail meant the bathroom and the thick white towels provided were warm when one emerged from enjoying a powerful and invigorating shower. Everything we needed for a happy visit was provided including milk, tea, coffee and biscuits to welcome us after our long journey. The parking was excellent and the setting in the countryside meant it was quiet and peaceful. Having a pub, The Coppleridge Inn, hosted by a friendly landlord, that served food, just steps away, was very convenient. The property was well sited close to Shaftesbury a pleasing market town. We had easy access to a great many attractions further afield, and driving through the glorious scenery to reach them added to our delight. Top of the list of National Trust venues we visited was Kingston Lacy. Set in beautiful gardens, it is filled with fabulous paintings and treasures, and manned by superb volunteer room guides. Among the many other places we enjoyed were Tintinhull Gardens, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door… oh and Lyme Regis which completely won my heart. From being comfortable at the house to enjoying exploring the area we think is the place to stay is the Cider Press and thoroughly recommend it. Maureen
Excellent, well appointed cottage, with some lovely personal touches.
Great location for exploring Dorset, with many attractions less than an hours drive away. Would highly recommend.
Excellent cottage with superb amenities.
A great base to tour the area with outstanding and beautiful countryside. A very nice welcome from the owner when we arrived. The community run village shop has many provisions available including a Post Office counter, a rarity these days. Plenty to do and see with some excellent pubs and restaurants across the counties that border the cottage location with the lovely town of Shafesbury 2 miles away with it's many independent shops, well worth a visit. Needless to say we will be returning in 2024. A very happy traveller.
We had an amazing stay, the cottage was clean and tidy and beautifully put together.
We loved the exposed wood work which gave it character.
Lovely cottage in a great area for days out in every direction, a lovely part of the world!
This property was very comfortable, exceptionally clean and the attention to detail was superb.
Plenty of places nearby to visit with the dog and Caroline and Rupert were very welcoming and friendly. I will be recommending the Cider Press as an excellent place to stay and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
A very pleasant stay and we would return.
Lovely situation in the Dorset countryside.
Lovely cottage that we would be happy to stay at again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Cider Press and we would happily stay here again!
The cottage was exactly as advertised and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Although there was only two of us, having the extra bedroom gave us space to store our suitcases and to spread out a little. Everything was super clean and tidy and it was also nice to meet the owners who introduced themselves when we arrived. The location was great and we were able to visit lots of places nearby and further afield. We took a fan with us due to the heatwave, but the cottage was relatively cool inside which was good. We would have no hesitation in recommending a stay at The Cider Press.
The property was as advertised, and proved to be a good base to permit us to visit place in the general area that interested us.
A problem with the property door lock was quickly remedied by the owners following a telephone call to them. A new lock being fitted the following morning.
Hi Terry, It was lovely to meet you and we're glad you had a good trip - there is so much to see and do in the area! I am sorry that the lock was misbehaving when you arrived, but delighted that we were able to get it changed super quickly. Thank you for your understanding and kind words and very best wishes to you both.
Good for a short stay.
The accommodation was very clean, high standard of fittings.
Positioned in a lovely village and convenient to see most of Dorset. Lovely pub opposite. Beds were extremely comfortable and facilities excellent.
Smaller than we thought but perfectly comfortable and well appointed.
Owners helpful and friendly. Pub very close.
Owner were helpful but also respected your privacy.
Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.
Very high standard of decor and facilities. A perfect home from home. I would highly recommend the Cider Press at Motcombe.
Great little cottage with quality mattresses, bedding and towels.
The cottage was very clean and tidy, it was exactly as per the advert and we were made very welcome.
There was lots of walks for the dog and plenty of things to do and see within easy reach of the accommodation.
A very cosy, well equipped and bijou cottage, well situated.
Not suitable for more than 2 people as very small.
This was a perfect place for us to stay.
The house is extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated.
We had an amazing time in Dorset, despite the weather.
The Cider Press is a lovely cottage, little but perfect for our small family. It has a cosy feel and had everything we need. Caroline and Rupert were really nice and welcoming. We hoping to visit Cider Press again.
We would highly recommend the Cider Press.
This was our second visit and we will definitely be back.
A very quiet and relaxing location.
Very clean and comfortable.
both cottages are lovely, very clean and comfortable and I couldn't have asked for more.
The owners are particularly welcoming and friendly and I enjoyed meeting them. They made me feel extremely welcome and have now been there twice and hope to go again soon.
It was just so peaceful and quiet.
The pub just across the road that did excellent food. The fact my 14 month old dog was allowed at the cottage and pub. Beautiful Stourton National Trust 15 mins away. I going back I just loved it. Ps The bed was so comfy and luxurious.
Delightful, clean and well equipped cottage with home comforts as a nice added touch.
Very friendly family run business. Perfectly located for day trips out in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. Would definitely recommend to all.
Incredibly helpful host and beautiful surroundings.
The Cider Press is a clean, comfortable and stylish little cottage, we felt immediately at home there.
Location of holiday cottage is excellent as there is a first class pub - Coppleridge Inn - only about 100 yards away that serves good food at a reasonable price AND is very dog friendly.
On the first evening we went there were around 10 dogs in the "doggy" area! The cottage was clean & welcoming and equipped very well. If you enjoy walking, this is an excellent base. We undertook spectacular walks centred on Cerne Abbas & Compton Abbas, both of which are only around 20 minutes drive away.
This was a charming cottage, very clean and of a high standard.
Perfect location with stunning scenery, close to Gillingham and Shaftsbury with an excellent pub across the road.
The cottage is in a lovely location.
Other than the adjoining cottages and the pub about 150 yds away, it was very secluded and quiet. Everything you could want for us provided and the kitchen was well equipped for a short stay. Lovely hosts who made us feel very welcome.
The Cider Press is a really lovely place to stay.
It has everything you would want for a great holiday - a well-equipped kitchen, abundant hot water, comfortable beds, lots of fluffy white towels, cosy warm sitting room, fast wi-fI, very attractive decor inside and a generous outside space. Caroline and Rupert made us feel so welcome and are very thoughtful. We really appreciated the tea and biscuits that greeted us on arrival after a hot drive from London, all the leaflets about things to do in the area, and their advice, tips and directions. The Cider Press is in a brilliant location, only 3 miles from Shaftesbury which is a beautiful English town, close to several stunning National Trust properties, not far from the amazing Dorset costline, AND right opposite a pub which has a fabulous view from the outside terrace. We will definitely be going back.
Caroline and Rupert were/are extraordinary hosts.
They could not have been more thoughtful, generous and accommodating. I loved my nearly 3 weeks at Cider Press and the chance to investigate nearby natural wonders like Lulworth Cove, the Durdle Door, Lyme Regis - I would return in a minute!
Very easy to book and really good communication to ensure we were happy with the accommodation.
A beautiful, well-appointed and clean cottage. Really good quality furnishings for a very comfortable stay. A beautiful location - we will definitely stay again!
Lovely to meet the property owners who were very welcoming and friendly.
Lovely location for exploring Shaftsbury and surrounding area. Copperidge Inn (opposite accommodation) serves good food and drinks with very friendly staff. Whole area of Dorset seems dog friendly.
Lovely cottage and furnished to a very high specification with everything you could need, including milk, tea and coffee plus some lovely biscuits waiting for us.
Owners are very friendly and asked if there was anything else they could do to make future visitors experience any better....needless to say there wasn’t much!
