Description

In Noss Mayo, within 200 yards of its excellent pubs, an 18th cent. cottage flanked by equally historic neighbours, facing across a little access lane to its front garden (table/chairs) and the estuary. At the back, a terraced garden with shed (freezer) and steps up to sheltered decking (table/chairs) and lofty views between chimneys to the estuary. Inside, a comfortable home with lovely designer fabrics, furnishings and wall paints, beams and considerable charm. Front stable doors into living room with TV/DVD; double bedroom with TV and en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath, cupboard with washing machine and tumble drier). Stairs (5'10" ceiling in one place) from living room up to kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, fridge, electric oven/gas hob) with granite worktops and back door to garden; another double bedroom (5' bed, limited clothes-hanging space) with en suite shower-room (suite). Arrival after 4pm. A lovely cottage.

Newton Ferrers/Noss Mayo: adjoining small villages beside the River Yealm estuary, sheltered by oak-wooded hillsides, popular for sailing, lovely for walking or just sitting. Essential shops (Newton Ferrers) and good food pubs. Low tide footpath across the creek. Tennis courts; riding stables. Pedestrian ferry to coast walk to Wembury (village), and secluded beach. Mothecombe (nearest sandy beach by car), 4 miles. Plymouth, 11.

Had a terrific week in one of Devon’s hidden gems.

What a great stay!

The little cottage was just perfectly located and beautifully presented - clean, well kitted out and even a bottle of wine on arrival. We had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

On arrival we surprised to find the property was up for sale, We understand the owners wanting to still offer holiday lettings, but having a for sale sign outside just felt a bit odd.

The property was clean but a thorough dust of all the hard to reach spaces is an absolute must, yes it’s an old property with beams and everyone gets cobwebs, however the kitchen spotlights, ornamentals sailing ship above the cooker and the chandelier in the upstairs bedroom need a good vacuum, along with the seaside themed nicknacks. The bed upstairs was super comfy and the towels and bed linen were lovely quality. There wasn’t much room for groceries as every cupboard was full, so really well equipped with everything from an egg cup to a hot water bottle but better organisation of what’s what’s would help when you self cater. The TVs were a bit tiny .. and we could only get Netflix on the one in the downstairs bedroom, sounds daft but if you get a wash out weather week a bit of binge watch TV is going to happen however hard you try to resist. We really liked that fact there was an en-suite and full bathroom which helped enormously even with just 2 of us, no queues for the bathroom, heating and hot water plentiful and we always always look for a property with a washing machine as we are keen walkers and hurray there was a clothes airer . In such a quaint teeny tiny village parking was a luxury with 2 very friendly pubs in striking distance. The location was picture postcard perfect, the walk around the South West Coastal Path, is in our opinion an absolute must. We loved crossing the Vosses ( causeway) between the villages, and using the ferry to get over to Warren Point although it was £20 for 2 for a return trip. However a real novelty when you live so far from the coast All in all a great week.
