“Some of the pictures on the website are out of date which can be misleading.”

In the pictures there is a sofa in the sitting room but in reality it is a day bed which was very uncomfortable to sit on. Also the pictures of outside - the seating arrangements have changed, it looks like there is a clear path to the door & a nice garden either side of the path. In reality there was hardly any path, nettles were growing across it & everything was very overgrown. It was also difficult to get out of the car because of how overgrown it was. The directions to the cottage should also be looked at as we went out of our way to follow them explicitly after an 8 hour drive & they sent us the wrong way. It was incredibly stressful after such a long drive to be on single track roads & not knowing where you were going. It would be much easier to find the property coming in from North Tawton which was the route we used mostly as it was more direct & easy to follow. We were woken up early (4ish most days) by the peacocks so if you like to sleep in this isn't the place for you. On the bright side the kitchen was modern & well supplied, the shower room the same. Our beds were very comfortable & there was a good amount of storage space (though some of the furniture & fittings are quite dated). Also (apart from the peacocks) if you like a remote, quiet location this would be a good spot. All in all pros & cons but I'd definitely suggest a new sofa (or proper sofa bed if you need provision for more guests). That would have made our stay much more comfortable.

Many thanks for taking the time to submit your review. We have discussed the points you raise with the owner. We can confirm that the sofa is different to the 1 in the photos, this was changed due to guests not liking the height of the previous sofa - as you can understand, sofas and mattresses are of personal preference and we are sorry you felt it uncomfortable. The garden is in full bloom at this time of the year, not overgrown! The owner has added some further information to the directions to help future guests if needed . Ear plugs are provided if you are fortunate to hear the peacocks! We are pleased you enjoyed the quiet location, we agree it is a perfect base for exploring The Westcountry. Property Owner

The property

North of the Dartmoor National Park, located on an idyllic woodland estate and working farm, is this renovated detached cottage, set on the fringes of North Tawton.

This charming property has a traditional take on its décor with modern utilities throughout, and would suit a small group of friends or a couple.

At the front of the property, there is a hallway, cloakroom, and utility room, so the larger appliances such as the freezer and washing machine are neatly tucked away, leaving you more living space in the other areas.

Going through to the open-plan kitchen, dining area and sitting space, you will find wooden features and classic furnishings, with the sofa facing the wall-mounted TV and the woodburning stove for those chilly evenings.

Make the most of the zip-link flexibility of the bed, by turning the king-size double bed into a twin room for you and a friend, with another bedroom across the way hosting a single bed.

The bathroom is sleek and compact with everything you need to begin your day right, starting with a hot shower in the walk-in shower cubicle, as well as a basin and WC.

There are acres of pretty woodland surrounding the property, but you may want to chill-out in a more private space which is why it also has a private patio with seating for those balmy summer evenings.

The property is located just a 15-minute drive away from the A30, so you can easily venture out into Cornwall and Devon for a wider selection of tourist attractions and activities on offer.

Why not visit the town next door, Okehampton, which is host to a number of attractions such as the Museum of Dartmoor Life which is responsible for bringing community activities, events and exhibitions to life in the area and providing tourist information for North Dartmoor.

Of course for those seeking a thrill, you can travel over to a popular spot in the national park, Hound Tor, and have a go at some bouldering and climbing activities.

The Old Laundry is a home-away-from-home for you and your friends.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
