Elaine “A lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and well equipped.”
In a perfect position in Chagford, a very friendly and welcoming place to stay.

Hilary “I church cottage is in the perfect location.”
Everything was good about the accommodation except for the very difficult stairs down to the kitchen. Ok if you are fit and well but difficult if you are not so able.. the stairs up to the bedrooms also very steep and narrow. This is our return trip to this little house so we knew what we were letting ourselves in for.sadly we won’t be able to cope by next year. But it’s lovely to have breakfast at Blacks just a step away or sit in the lovely church yard with your own cuppa!
- Hilary, July 2025Thank you for taking time to review your stay - we’re always pleased when guests return! As you say the location is spot on for facilities and being able to walk from the door. The stairs are certainly steep as is typical - for the benefit of other guests in case helpful it is worth mentioning there is a handrail down the kitchen steps. We wish you all the best and hope you find a ground floor property so you can still enjoy this lovely place. Property Owner
Christine “What a lovely cottage very well equipped and comfortable everything we could need and such a lovely village to stay”
- Christine, June 2025Thank you so much for taking the time to review Church Cottage, we really appreciate it and it’s great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Chagford is indeed a special place - so much so that we made the move and are lucky enough to call it home. We hope to see you again. Property Owner
Lorna “The cottage was a real home from home, everything you could hope for was provided and more.”
Excellent place to start walks from and the swimming pool nearby was a bonus. One thing to be aware of the stairs inside are steep. Chagford is a beautiful friendly village.
- Lorna, May 2025Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review - we are so glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate knowing you found Church Cottage comfortable and homely as that’s exactly what we aim to provide. Chagford is without doubt a special and beautiful place! Property Owner
Cathy “Great little cottage in the heart of Chagford”
- Cathy, May 2025Thank you for your review - we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay and all that Chagford has to offer. Property Owner
Ian “Great property in a great location.”
Everything within the cottage was in good condition and kept very clean. We were lucky to have excellent weather all week and spent some time in the garden. The garden itself was lovely with the camellias in full bloom. The garden furniture could perhaps do with an update but this didn’t affect our enjoyment. Overall this is an excellent property
- Ian, April 2025Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. Chagford is a lovely place but especially when the sun shines! It’s good to know you found everything you needed for a comfortable stay at Church Cottage - the garden is a lovely quiet spot even tho it’s in the centre of town. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner
Josephine “A very well designed & comfortable cottage in an excellent position.”
It is quite cosy downstairs, as we discovered when two friends joined us for a couple of days, but the bedrooms were spacious and the extra bathroom was very welcome. Parking in the nearby car park was no problem - and we were relieved to find that was space to unload/load outside for 30 minutes. An issue with a missing frying pan was swiftly resolved by the housekeeper & owner (although we later noticed that only one of the provided saucepans worked on the induction hob). But given the tight dining space (a table with foldaway chairs might help), it’s probably better to plan to eat out at one of the many nearby pubs in Chagford. Overall a lovely place to stay.
- Josephine, September 2024Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We’re glad you enjoyed the cottage and Chagford itself which is definitely a special place. As you say, the cottage is a 2up 2down so certainly cosy but hopefully well equipped and comfortable. Feedback from our guests is very important to us and I’ve tested the saucepans on the hob today - I’m glad to report they all work ok so I’m not sure what happened there and hope it didn’t spoil your stay. We hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

Good quality furnishings and equipment. Spotlessly clean and everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Easy to park, the carpark is just a short walk through the churchyard. Lovely little town with independent shops. Good location for exploring the local area. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area. Recommended :))))

Trudy “Wow! What a lovely cozy completely refurbished cottage with all our needs catered for.”
We originally wanted a cottage with a real fire but we both loved the real like electric fire and decided it was better without the hassle of making it up after long walks bagging tors. The kitchen was more than fully equipped and everything was very good quality as the owners have a real detail for providing the best. The garden was lovely with the seating area but too cold for us to use but be lovely in the summer. Big spacious bedrooms with large king size beds and one en suite and even though we were almost on the Main Street it was very quiet. We loved the location being in the centre of Chagford with a good selection of artisan shops and being opposite Blacks the most amazing deli where we bought soups and cakes for our walks and three really lovely food pubs - The Three Crowns, The Globe and our favourite The Chagford Inn. We also recommend breakfast in The Old Forge Cafe. There’s an excellent wine shop selling local beer and cider and a bakery, greengrocers and butchers. We particularly loved the bell ringing on Tuesday evening for 90 minutes. We also managed to park on the street for free. We notice from the visitors book that many people stay for a second time and we can see why! Thank you to our hosts for making such a wonderful holiday stay
- Trudy, January 2024Hi Trudy - Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review, it’s wonderful for us to know we’ve done a good job, and importantly it’s reassuring to potential guests. We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Frances “Totally positive experience overall, the cottage is lovely and cosy and we didnt need to put the heating on at all, just the little electric heater in the front room for short periods of time.”
Beautifully equipped kitchen, thank you for all the extra bits that were provided. An extra side table would be great in the living room and also the lock on the bathroom door downstairs was a little sticky and sometimes didnt work and the bath was very slow to drain. Really minor issues to be honest and it was really lovely to meet you!
- Frances, October 2023We're very glad you enjoyed your stay in Church Cottage. We always want to improve and have acted on your feedback - there is now a nest of coffee tables instead of just one and the bathroom lock has been adjusted. The bath drain has been checked and is working, the pop up plug just needed a little adjustment which has also been done. We hope to welcome you back again. Property Owner
Kath “We had a lovely stay at Church Cottage.”

Lewis “Needed to be a technical wizard to use T.”
V., even house keeper could not help.
- Lewis, December 2022Apologies, to hear you had problems with the TV, the housekeeper did attend and although was not able to resolve at the time, she leave you a message which you may have missed due to your early departure as a result of the rail strikes. The issue has now been corrected. Property Owner
Nicola “A well appointed cottage in a great location.”
We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning back to the property for another stay in the future. Good choice of walls within the locality and a friendly village.
- Nicola, October 2022Thank you for taking the time to review your stay, we’re glad you found everything you needed for a pleasant stay and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner
Michael “Immaculate, stylish, well-designed accommodation.”
A perfect base for exploring Dartmoor. Only one minor quibble as regards facilities: although the water from the hot tap of the wash basin in the bathroom was always piping hot, the water from the hot tap of the bath itself was never better than lukewarm. Perhaps someone could take a look at the plumbing to see if the hot water situation could be improved. (I'm happy for my feedback to be published without the minor reservation regarding the hot water supply to the bath).
- Michael, October 2022Thank you very much for your positive review. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay in Church Cottage. It’s a lovely spot. We are following up the issue you reported with the bath and hope it didn’t spoil your stay. Property Owner
Bobbi “The cottage was in a wonderful location, very clean and had just about everything.”
The upstairs was spacious but the downstairs a little small. We would certainly re-visit the cottage and recommend it to anyone, the village is beautiful along with the people. The pubs, restaurants and shops are excellent.
- Bobbi, September 2022Thanks very much for taking the time to review Church Cottage. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and everything that Chagford has to offer, it is a special place for us too. We hope to see you again. Property Owner
David “Superb cottage in a lovely location.”
The owners have obviously paid great attention to detail that was much appreciated. Facilities, decor, cleanliness and comfort couldn’t be faulted. If only every holiday cottage could be this well presented! A very enjoyable stay. Thanks.
- David, May 2022Thank you for your lovely feedback and taking the time. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner
Jacqui “It was a real privilege to be the first guests at Church Cottage, it's a beautiful cosy cottage which is ideally located for enjoying all that Chagford has to offer.”
We thought the interior was beautifully presented and the garden was also gorgeous. The cottage had all the amenities / facilities that we needed for our stay and was really well equipped. We didn't have any problems with parking, we parked either on the street or in the public car park which is a short walk from the cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay, I'm sure we will be back in the future.
- Jacqui, May 2022Thank you for taking the time to review Church Cottage. It’s a new venture for us so we are especially pleased you found everything you needed and hope to see you again. Property Owner
