Esther “Lovely cottage in a great location in Topsham.”
Cottage had everything that we needed and lots of great games and books. Topsham is a vibrant bustling place with some nice independent shops and cafes and we love to stay there.

John “Best location of any property we have stayed at in Topsham.”
Clean and very well equipped. Would choose to stay again and recommend to anyone.
- John, March 2024Thank you for taking the time to give your lovely feedback. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay! All the very best. Dan. Property Owner
Miriam “This is the third time we have stayed in this lovely cottage, all was perfect.”
It's a great location with easy access to all the delights of Topsham and the surrounding area. Great public transport links, the car spent most of the week in the Holman Way car park and we walked most places.
- Miriam, February 2024Julian “It's a lovely property in a great location, there are lots of positives here.”
But it was the after sales care we were most appreciative of. In a big rush to leave we managed to leave a laptop behind which the owner was incredibly helpful with, going out of his way to help resolve quite a stressful situation.
- Julian, December 2023Nigel “A lovely comfortable, cosy cottage.”
We had everything we needed to enjoy cooking and relaxing, and with great amenities nearby with local shops, pubs and restaurants.
- Nigel, December 2023Jennifer “The property was very comfortable, light and airy, and very welcoming, with all the main items in the kitchen provided,to a high standard.”
The kingsize bed (the only one we used) was extremely comfortable. The cottage is in a very quiet street, and close to the water front, and town centre. We couldn't have wished for more.
- Jennifer, September 2023Martin “Super stay and great position.”
Everything is provided for a comfortable stay.
- Martin, August 2023Sheila “Brilliant location.”
Outdoor patio. Very comfortable and well equipped. No hairdryer?!
- Sheila, June 2023Thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. There is a hairdryer in the property, at last look it was in the single bedroom on top of the bookcase, but now I'll put it somewhere more obvious when I'm next at the house. Best wishes. Dan. Property Owner
John “Parking is very difficult especially if you’re not so mobile House generally ...”
Parking is very difficult especially if you’re not so mobile House generally very nice and well equipped ,but sitting room furniture quite uncomfortable Outside table is a bit big for such a tiny yard Overall very enjoyable break
- John, April 2023Thank you for your kind feedback about the house and I'm glad you had an enjoyable time. I've added some cushions to the sofa just in case others find it a problem. I'm afraid I can't help with the parking as Topsham was laid out long before cars were invented, which I guess is part of the charm, but as I outline in my welcome email, there is a large reasonably priced central car park not far away, or alternatively, if you prefer, it is an easy place to get the train to and dispense with the car altogether. We live in Topsham too and, though frustrating, everyone understands if you need to pull up outside the house to unload, take time helping people inside etc. Best wishes. Dan. Property Owner
Steve “This holiday cottage in Topsham must be one of the best cottages we have stayed in.”
Topsham is great, not only for the number of places to eat and drink but also as a base to explore Devon. The cottage itself was fantastic, clean and very well presented. The bottle of champagne was an extra bonus. I cannot recommend this property enough.
- Steve, April 2023Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you had a great time and enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
Margaret “A very relaxing and enjoyable stay (my second) in this cottage.”
The only thing with which we had a problem was control of the central heating. More detailed information would probably have enabled us to solve the problem ourselves rather than needing to contact the agent and the owner needing to visit.
- Margaret, February 2023Thank you for your kind 100% feedback and indeed for returning to stay a second time. I'm sorry you encountered the brief setback with the heating - it was no problem to pop round that evening and good to meet you. Thankfully all that had happened was that the thermostat had been turned down so the heating didn't kick in. I've now set it so that it can't be altered, so hopefully that will very much be a one off. Best wishes. Dan. Property Owner
Richard “Second time staying, great cottage in very good location.”
Grill pan in oven was dirty on arrival (covered in solidified melted cheese) which was a bit off putting. We'd suggest having spare blankets available for the beds as duvets felt like summer only and it got chilly during the night.
- Richard, January 2023Thank you for the feedback. I'm very sorry about the grill pan and will pass that on to the changeover team as they are normally very thorough but clearly need to add it to their list of things to check. Good idea re the blankets for very cold nights - I'll certainly address that. Many thanks. Dan. Property Owner
Miriam “A second great stay at this lovely cosy cottage.”
It is so central to everything in Topsham. The walks and migratory birds on the RSPB reserve are so beautiful at this time of year. Will be back soon.
- Miriam, November 2022Karilyn “Beautiful cottage well situated and everything we needed and more for a visit to Topsham.”
The house had many interesting personal features Spotlessly clean. Owner easy to contact. Would like to return. Sorry forgot to say thank you for the goodies left for us much appreciated
- Karilyn, October 2022Catherine “This is our second stay at 5 Exe Street, we enjoyed it so much last year, my kids and I were desperate to come back !”
The house felt like home the second we came through the door, it’s such a relaxing place to stay - we all slept like logs, the bed in the main bedroom is the comfiest I’ve ever slept on, the green bedroom is so peaceful and the top floor room with its view of the boats is magical. The appliances are all easy to operate and it was great to have Netflix. The proximity to the Co-op is an absolute godsend! Couldn’t think of any suggestions other than 1) My daughter did mention that a mirror on the top floor would be handy, even if mounting it on the wall is difficult, a hand mirror or fold -out one would do. 2) Oh and we couldn’t find any bin liners for the pedal bin in the kitchen ! (but we may have been being stupid and just didn’t find them !) Thank you again for a wonderful week. We loved the house and we love Topsham.
- Catherine, July 2022Louise “Lovely spot in fact pretty perfect all round.”
Cottage was clean and tidy, well stocked with kitchen equipment. Warm and lovely clean comfy beds. Brilliant position to explore a very pretty and friendly town. Oh and some fab books, I’m book mad.
- Louise, May 2022Nigel “A lovely well equipped cottage in a great location.”
- Nigel, May 2022Bob “Lovely cottage in a great location.”
The only complaint was the vacuum cleaner which after using omitted a very strong smell of dogs so much that we had to open all the windows to get rid of the smell. Also the instructions couldn't be found for the washer/drier. Other than that everything was perfect and would book again. thanks.
- Bob, May 2022Thank you so much for the 100% feedback and positive comments. Thanks for flagging up the hoover, I’ve just changed the bag and it seems fine, and I’ll make sure to look out the washing machine instructions. We hope to see you again. Best wishes. Property Owner
Cotter “This is an excellent holiday cottage, stylish, warm and practical.”
Would highly recommend it. Really well thought out and great to stay somewhere with a decent sized bath.. good quality pots and other kitchen equipment. The whole house is well organised and well thought out with good quality bedding and towels. Parking is a bit of pain but that's a feature of Topsham but always found places easily. Would definitely stay again.
- Cotter, April 2022Thank you so much for the amazing feedback! Best wishes. Property Owner
Margaret “An excellent week's stay in this lovely, convenient cottage.”
It was comfortably warm--very important for a winter stay. Everything we needed was very local, so much so that we parked the car in the Holman Way car park on arrival, paid by the day remotely via RingGo (£3.70 per day) and went everywhere on foot or by bus or train. We were very lucky with the weather, which was ideal for bird-watching within a short walk of the cottage. We shall be recommending to our friends, particularly those who do not drive/have a car and we hope to return sometime.
- Margaret, January 2022George “A well throught out and equipped holiday cottage close to all the amenities Topsham has to offer.”
The house is warm and comfortable and very nicely decorated, and we felt at home quickly. We wouldn’t hesitate to book again.
- George, December 2021Gillian “Property was amazing.”
Clean spacious and lovely and warm. Perfect location for walks, shopping, bus and trains. We hardly used our car, we left it at Holman Way Car Park and topped up on the RingGo App £3.50 a day - bargain. We would definitely recommend staying here and hopefully will return ourselves soon too.
- Gillian, November 2021Dear Mrs Rea, Thanks so much for the feedback - I’m really glad you enjoyed your stay. Good to know we’re on the right track. Yes, the RingGo is the game changer for parking I agree. All the very best. Dan. Property Owner
Mike “Very clean and well looked after cottage in the heart of Topsham.”
Finding a parking space wasn’t always easy, though not a surprise.
- Mike, October 2021Marilyn “Our host, Dan, contacted us before our visit with a welcoming message and giving some personal information about the cottage which was so reassuring.”
- Marilyn, October 2021Paul “Lovely cottage, well situated for local amenities all in walking distance.”
Very clean and well equipped for everything you need, nice little courtyard for a morning coffee, beds very comfy. Locals all extremely friendly and pass time of day with you. Great you can leave car and get train into Exeter or Exmouth for a day out and only 12mins away. Would highly recommend.
- Paul, September 2021Kate “We had a wonderful stay at 5 Exe Street.”
House was very comfortable, lovely surprise welcome pack and fabulous location minutes from the estuary, shops and restaurants. Topsham is a delightful town - a real hidden gem with easy access to surrounding areas. Great local walks for dogs. My daughters loved the outdoor swimming pool and the recreation play area. We will definitely return for a future stay at Exe Street. Thank you
- Kate, August 2021Michelle “Photos don’t do justice lovely little house in old part of Topsham a real gem.”
Close to some nice bars and eateries.
- Michelle, July 2021Annabel “This cottage is brilliantly located in Topsham with local shops and cafes, bars and restaurants on the doorstep.”
It's also easy reach of Exeter, beaches, Dartmoor and other Devon gems. It's a beautiful spot!
- Annabel, July 2021Andy “Great central location and plenty of great restaurants and things to do around Topsham.”
- Andy, June 2021Catherine “We’ve had the most fantastic week at 5 Exe Street; the house was lovely - beautifully decorated, full of character, and clean and comfortable.”
Everything you could need was there. The little courtyard garden was perfect for dining, and we ate outside every night. The house suited us perfectly as my daughters had a bedroom each, and the bedroom at the very top of the house was a great den for them to get away from us oldies, and watch the sunset and stargaze !!! The location was perfect, so handy for the local Coop and all the shops, pubs and cafes, and for travelling further afield to Exeter (we went there on the train), Killerton House, Teignmouth, Seaton and others. Can’t wait to visit again- we came home yesterday and are already missing the place !
- Catherine, June 2021Richard “Fabulous, tastefully decorated cottage close to all amenities, would definitely recommend it.”
- Richard, June 2021Lisa “Very clean and well furnished cottage.”
Topsham is a lovely location. Parking is a bit of a bind as the nearest car park is 400m away but if you return to the cottage after 5pm and are out again for the day by 10am you can find roadside parking at the top of Exe street (50m away) very easily.
- Lisa, May 2021Rebecca “The cottage is very comfortable and colourful.”
We were most impressed
- Rebecca, May 2021Miriam “This was a well maintained, cosy cottage right in the heart of Topsham close to all the shops and facilities.”
It made an ideal base for exploring the local area.
- Miriam, May 2021Denise “Brilliant location except for difficulty in finding long stay parking.”
Long stay on street parking now charged for!
- Denise, May 2021Pamela “The location of this cottage was wonderful being close to the quayside, shops and not far from the station.”
We were able to leave our car close by for free and just use the excellent train service to explore the many places of interest in the area. The house was charming and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to return in the future. The communication from Helpful Holidays and from the owner was welcome and informative.
- Pamela, October 2020Samantha “Excellent little house and brilliant location.”
Couldn’t have improved on anything. Really friendly owners were helpful with our queries too. Thank you. We hope to come back again.
- Samantha, August 2020Sue “Thankyou so much for a great stay.”
This cottage is lovely, very clean with modern appliances and very comfortable, plenty of room for a family of 4. The courtyard garden, although small, was fantastic to sit out in with my book and also for meals in the evening. The house is a short walk to the quayside one way and shops the other way. A great location for enjoying a walk to watch the sunset in the evening and also along the Goat Walk, it’s very peaceful. It is also in a great position to be able to explore other areas nearby, we did trips out to Sidmouth and enjoyed a walk along The Byes from Sidford to Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Beer and Charmouth. Killerton House is also nearby and well worth a visit. There are plenty of places to eat out in Topsham too but at this time booking is essential due to new safety measures in place. Thankyou again for a great stay
- Sue, August 2020Margaret “Lovely cottage.”
Great location.
- Margaret, July 2020Louise “This is a well functioning small house in an idyllic as well as practical location.”
Plenty of hot water for showers; good, responsive heating system; a well functioning kitchen with good class appliances and all wrapped in a homely and pretty decor. The extras are also there - games, books and a small outside space for eating. The location in the town of makes an Topsham excellent base for discovering Devon as well as convenient for evenings at the local restaurants and pubs without having to drive. We loved our holiday and would highly recommend this venue.
- Louise, July 2020Claire “I don’t know what to say about the most amazing, delightful holiday home we were so lucky to stay in.”
The location, the quality, the comfort of the home with everything in it for all ages, the books, the games for staying in days, everything you could possibly need. The view and 2 minute walk to the river one way with the 2 minute walk to the shops needed the other way. So quiet, peaceful and relaxing. I highly recommend staying here, it’s perfect!
