“Thank you Jayne and Rowan for sharing your idyllic piece of Devon with us!”

Our stay was comfortable and homely with everything we come possibly need. Fabulous countryside and perfect for dog walking. Disappointed that we missed the calves being born but lovely to walk around the farm and be woken by the sheep on a morning. Delicious lemon cake too! Couldn’t ask for more. Thank you!

They are in a brilliant, peaceful position with fine views, on the side of beech-tree-crowned Dumpdon Hill (Iron Age fort, good walks, National Trust), above the Otter Valley.

You are welcome to help when possible on the environmentally-friendly, well managed, clean 135 acre working farm (horses, chickens, Devon cattle, Gotland sheep).

Heating and hot water are piped to the cottages and farmhouse from solar panels and a log boiler (out of sight) which is fed with coppiced wood from sustainably managed woodland.

Spring water.

Arrival after 5pm.

Swallows Cottage has been excellently converted from an old threshing barn into a high quality and welcoming cottage facing privately away from the owners’ house and G77.

Patio (table/chairs, barbecue) and own small, lawned garden (across quiet farm track) with lovely countryside views.

Inside, open-plan living/dining room with fuel-efficient woodburner, TV/DVD and French windows to patio.

About the location

HONITON

Ottery St Mary 5.6 miles; Lyme Regis 14.2 miles; Exeter 16.7 miles.

Honiton is a delightful market town in East Devon, with plenty to offer visitors. It lies in the valley of the River Otter and is surrounded by rolling Devon hills, green wooded valleys and plenty of scattered farming villages. Honiton has an attractive High Street stretching almost 2 miles, and lined with individually owned shops, pubs and restaurants. Honiton has been famous for lacemaking since the reign of Elizabeth I and still has a few lacemakers in work today - visitors can see some fine examples of antique lace in the town’s Allhallows Museum. Honiton boasts the only public art gallery in East Devon; the Thelma Hulbert Gallery occupies an attractive Grade I listed Victorian house, and has links with the Hayward Gallery, London. Honiton is only a short drive from the dramatic 20 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site. Resorts such as Seaton, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth are found along this stretch of coastline, and all have much to occupy the visitor. Near to Honiton is the cathedral city of Exeter with plenty of large shops, a wealth of museums, a theatre and fabulous restaurants.

Note: This property sleeps a maximum of 4 adults and one child under 12 years
