Gail “The beds were really comfy!”
Very well equipped and perfect for exploring the moors, excellent location! The owners were very friendly and informative and went out of their way to help us. Perfect for dogs and can imagine in the summer would be an amazing spot for a BBQ! If your taking kids take some DVDs as most DVDs were for adults. We left a few for others to use.

David “Great cottage and a lovely place to visit”
- David, November 2024Meriel “We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Lydgate House Cottage.”
Situated in the middle of Dartmoor in a beautiful and peaceful location, the cottage was cosy and very well equipped. There are walks/cycle routes from the door and, although remote, the Dartmoor towns and villages of Moretonhampstead, Widecombe-in-the-Moor, North Bovey etc are within easy reach. John, Sarah and Kelly were most welcoming. We look forward to visiting again soon.
- Meriel, November 2024Karen “Absolutely beautiful location.”
The cottage had everything we needed. The walks from the door were spectacular. John and Kelly were so welcoming. Would definitely return.
- Karen, June 2024Jamie “Lovely place, very comfy and spotlessles clean.”
Very friendly owners, only negative is the wifi which is weak (it is Dartmoor so undersand), also stuggled to get normal TV on a couple of nights.
- Jamie, May 2024Caroline “A lovely cottage with everything we needed; very warm and cosy, very comfortable beds and great landlord.”
The cottage has a lovely woodland outlook, with lots of birdlife. Would recommend for sure.
- Caroline, May 2024Thank you so much for taking the time to write a lovely review. It was a pleasure to have hosted your weeks break on Dartmoor. We hope to see you in the future. Best wishes Sarah John and Kelly Property Owner
David “We wanted a quiet holiday over the Christmas period for ourselves and our dog.”
Lydgate Hotel Cottage provided everything we wished for the hospitality of the Hotel Team was outstanding. The various options to self- cate, eat in the Hotel or have piping hot meals delivered to our dinning table in the Cottage on an ad hoc basis gave fantastic flexibility during our stay. The Cottage (sleeps 6) was more than two of us plus dog needed, but coupled with the attention of our hosts and the flexibility noted above made it worth it. Plenty of walks with or without a dog on the doorstep even with our unpredictable Winter weather. Our thanks again to Sarah, John and Kelly - the perfect hosts.
- David, December 2023Adam “A fantastic cottage with all the fittings and finish to really be able to relax and enjoy the surroundings of Postbridge!”
Thank you for setting the home up for us on the Friday evening, great to have the baby cot and high chair ready to use as we needed. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cutlery, great to have a dishwasher and washing machine tumble dryer to use as needed. Be useful to have some baking trays for the oven. Bathrooms were well setup and good to use, upstairs en-suite was a bit of height challenge for some of us, but easy to get around. Good storage spaces in the bedrooms, along with bedside lamps. Lounge space was good to use, great to see the tv had some films to use. Be good to have the dvd player connected via a HDMI cable. Glad that wifi was available in the cottage, very useful added bonus
- Adam, May 2023Dear Adam, Thank you for taking the time to send us your kind feedback. This is so important to us to ensure yours and future guests stay is enjoyable and relaxing. I do apologise about the lack of baking trays, I really thought there was some in there. I will pop them in to make it easier for other guests. Kind Regards Sarah, John & Kelly Property Owner
Sandra “Really enjoyed our stay here.”
Was totally relaxing and quiet. Everything that you want is provided in the cottage. Only negative comments would be that it would have been nice to have an enclosed garden for the dogs and the steep drop off at the end of the garden. The bathroom would have benefited with a grab handle for the shower for the less mobile (me) but I managed! Overall would I go back? In a heartbeat!
- Sandra, May 2023Dear Sandra, Thank you for taking the time to send your kind feedback. It is lovely to read that you would return to Swallow Cottage. I will ask Helpful holidays to make the Statement that the garden isn't enclosed more prominent on our accommodation details. We hope to see you gain in the future. Kind Regards Sarah, John & Kelly Property Owner
Martin “A most enjoyable stay in a beautiful setting.”
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and had a terrific meal at the hotel where we were made so welcome. Our thanks to Sarah, John and Kelly

Nesta “Love the cottage ,owner friendly, and beautiful scenery.”
- Nesta, March 2023Mark “Absolutely fabulous cottage in the heart of Dartmoor.”
It rained 6 out of the 7 days we were there but we still managed plenty of walks direct from the cottage. The cottage itself was a joy to come back to as it was warm and very comfortable. The owners are lovely and were very helpful on the one ocassion we needed help with something. There is no phone signal and the wi-fi is iffy but that didn't bother us. In fact we loved it so much we wanted to come back in the summer but its booked through year up to October!!! We will be back next year.

Jane “Super friendly welcome by new owners who have updated the property to a high standard.”
Stayed in Swallow Cottage, which is cosy, warm and has everything you need. The wreath making class was great fun and the perfect start to Christmas. Will definitely visit again..
- Jane, November 2022Jillian “We absolutely loved our stay at Swallow Cottage.”
The owners were extremely kind and helpful, and made it a really special weekend for my parents 50th Wedding anniversary. We are already planning a return visit to stay at Swallow Cottage as we fell in love with the area and would like to explore more of Dartmoor on a longer trip. It’s ideally located, with many areas of interest within a short drive. I would highly recommend this property.
