Anthony “We had a fine week overall.”
It was nice and quiet and secluded and the property is well maintained and well kitted out. Some minor issues with cleanliness - flies and spiders/cobwebs, although I appreciate this comes with staying in a rural property. A bigger issue was the heavy winter duvet which made sleeping during hot August nights in the roof uncomfortable. Also, we had brought DVDs to watch as this was listed under the features (TV/DVD), but there was no DVD player. A more serious concern was what appeared to be an asbestos door on the shed in the garden. I had to make sure the dog and ourselves stayed clear of it and would suggest this be removed.
- Anthony, August 2024Apologies for all the above. Unfortunately we were away that weekend and had a cleaner in (who we will not use again) and so it appears spiders and flies were not rehomed! We will put in a lighter duvet, which in fact your neighbours requested and we gave to them. Apologies the tv was recently changed and this one does not have a dvd slot,we will change that on the listing. None of the shed doors are asbestos , the one on the end is mdf which has blown in places, maybe giving the appearance of asbestos. We are glad you enjoyed the other parts of your holiday. Emma “The Yoke is a great cottage.”
Clean and cosy, with friendly hosts in a lovely quiet location. We enjoyed our stay very much. Devon is beautiful and The Yoke is in a great location to enjoy all the best sights and day trips in and around Exeter and the Torbay area.
- Emma, August 2024Sandra “Hosts friendly and not intrusive.”
Cosy clean cottage.
- Sandra, May 2024John “Lovely cottage.”
Lovely hosts. Lovely area, Feels beautifully rural but near to A30, so easy to get out and about. Minor problem with heating controls immdiately attended to by our host. Highly recommend 'The Yoke'!
- John, April 2024Martin “Lovely warm cottage with everything required for a week away.”
Owners really helpful without being intrusive. Despite the frequent deluges of rain, sleet & snow we experienced, the enclosed shared lawned garden was a real bonus for our dog. Caution required when turning off A30 & also when turning into farm entrance due to speeding drivers - indicate well in advance for both junctions.

Highly rated.
- Iain, April 2023Judith “Excellent accommodation, comfortable, warm, clean and well appointed with all we needed.”
The hosts were welcoming and friendly and gave us some good pointers on accessing the local roads safely. The dog proof garden and use of an adjacent field for dog walking added to the enjoyment of our stay. The nearby village has an excellent Pub and well stocked village shop where we were able to buy all the things we needed, saving trips into larger towns for shopping. We were very happy with our stay and would look to book again when we visit Devon.

The yoke has been finished to a high standard, it's clean well maintained. It has everything you need from the well equipped kitchen, a wonderful garden, and at the time we stayed, even a Christmas tree and bottle of fizzy wine. I would highly recommend the yoke for a country cottage getaway.

- Debbie, August 2022Tina “We had such a lovely stay at The Yoke, Peter and Judith are so welcoming and friendly, they even went the extra mile when our old dog was poorly, and brought her freshly cooked chicken!”
Amazing! The cottage is well equipped, and very clean, cozy and comfortable. The enclosed rear garden was a very welcome addition too, our dogs loved it. Along with the use of a large field to exercise the dogs in before we went on our daily adventures was also a very welcome benefit. The fresh eggs, wine and flowers was such a lovely touch too. A very big thank you to them both.
- Tina, July 2022Laura “We had a lovely stay with out dogs for a week.”
The cottage is ideal for dogs with lots of dog (and dog buggy) friendly attractions less than an hour away, including a model village, Morwellham, donkey sanctuary, and War Horse place. I'd highly recommend coming!

Keep up the good work see you soon Allan Linda and Angelxx

- Christopher, January 2022Diane “We loved our stay - the cottage was everything we hoped for: comfy, warm and well equipped.”
We did struggle with the heating system a bit as we couldn't really turn it off and so got a tad hot at times (weather was unseasonally warm!) Location is perfect - we were able to get to Dartmoor easily and also Exeter was within easy reach. Peter and Judith were great.
- Diane, December 2021Kent “Absolutely perfect Christmas stay.”
The cottage was in excellent condition and very welcoming. The owners were lovely, happy to help and gave plenty of privacy. The whole experience felt personal and unique. Will definitely be recommending to others!

Having said that, it is only a mile to the local shop and pub.Clean and warm on our arrival with everything you could need. The owners welcomed us to the property and we appreciated the fresh eggs, sweet peas and prosecco. ( how did they know it was our anniversary) Our dog really appreciated the large recreation field we were allowed to use and the private and secure garden also helped. Would definitely come again.

Thank you for the welcome goodies ,Judith, the sweat peas were my favourite, just love their perfume. Cottage exceptionally clean and comfortable. My husband did find the bathroom mirror a bit low for shaving, he bumped his head a few times on the window edges.
- Shirley, August 2021Sophie “Another lovely stay at The Yoke.”
Can’t wait to come back again next year!
- Sophie, August 2021Jonathan “Loved the Yoke - it's half of a large barn conversion.”
Really comfortable with everything we needed and it's perfectly located to explore Dartmoor, Exeter and the South and North coasts. We brought our 18 month old with us and Peter and Judith were very friendly and accommodating.
- Jonathan, August 2021Derek “Very dog friendly.”
Owners were dog people, the garden was totally secure and there was an adjacent field available for exercising. Relatively convenient location, just off the A30, with a Sainsbury's superstore a few miles away and a village store good for basics. With The Furrow, a lovely holiday home.

- Judith, August 2020Cheryl “The Yoke is a newly converted barn that has all the facilities required for an relaxing holiday.”
The owners are very welcoming and easygoing. It was particularly important to me that my puppy was welcomed which the owners certainly did. They are a lovely, kind couple who take action immediately when their visitors have a question or need. I enjoyed my stay with them very much.
- Cheryl, August 2020Ann “Everything was to a high standard.”
Very comfortable bed and sofa, very well converted barn. Mr and Mrs Bradley friendly and helpful. Only improvement I can think of, is to do with coming home there in the dark, as I did each evening: the light across the car park only came on once, so I was feeling my way which is a bit scary at 76! Also I think they should paint a white line on the first step down at the side of the cottage, it would be easy to miss it as it is.
- Ann, August 2020Peter “Great property and great location.”
Really fantastic place to go!!
- Peter, August 2020Sophie “A wonderful, cosy, comfortable place to stay that exceeded all expectations - almost don't want to leave a review so we can keep this a hidden gem for ourselves!”
It is situated in an idyllic, sleepy village, but is still only about 15 minutes away from Exeter itself. In the other direction are the moors, with most National Trust sites within half an hours' drive. Judith and Peter were delightful hosts and were incredibly accommodating given current circumstances. The cottage is clean, thoughtfully laid out and well-equipped with modern appliances. We were even lucky enough to have whole garden to ourselves which was beautifully sunny for both breakfast in the morning and drinks in the evening. Overall, an absolutely lovely week away - we didn't want to leave, and we certainly can't wait to return!
- Sophie, July 2020George “Wonderful little cottage.”
Comfy and perfect to relax but also very close to Exeter and very quick and easy to explore Devon
- George, November 2019Justyna “This place is set in idyllic quiet location but only 10 min away from Exeter city centre.”
For those who prefer Dartmoor or coastal views you are also short distance away. Cottage was spotless and very comfortable. Little courtyard garden was a sun trap - must be fantastic to sit there during the summer.
- Justyna, October 2019Linda “The accommodation was lovely, clean, well equipped and very comfortable.”
We wanted a quiet and peaceful break and that is exactly what we got. The outside space was lovely too, dog friendly and a lovely garden to sit in (weather permitted). There is plenty to do and see around Exeter if you wanted to explore. The owners were welcoming and friendly. We would book this accommodation again and we would use Sykes again Linda and Peter Lewis
- Linda, October 2019Paul “Super tranquil location for exploring the nearby villages in dartmoor”
- Paul, September 2019Sylvia “The owners were very welcoming, and also providing eggs, milk, and flowers.”
we enjoyed our stay very much, very peaceful and relaxing garden area. Something that was very special for our Springer Spaniel Ziggy was a dog duvet, that you could put over the settee for her to sleep on, a unique idea. We had fabulous weather, visited the coast Dawlish and Teignmouth and went on a superb walk on Dartmoor climbing up to the tors and down to the valleys, glorious far reaching views. We would definitely return, ideal for just a few days, or a week, lots of places to visit nearby, in this unspoilt area of Devon.
- Sylvia, August 2019Adrian “Had a superb holiday at the Yoke.”
The hosts were friendly but not overpowering, the cottage well maintained and equipped. Locally lots to do, especially if you have NT membership, and the coast not far away, a great week away.
- Adrian, August 2019Percy Richard “We enjoyed everything!”
- Percy Richard, June 2019Kadi “The Yoke was a gorgeous place to stay, so much so that we didn't want to leave.”
The garden was wonderful for our dog, she had a lovely time running round, & made friends with the dog staying next door. We went out during the day, but were always back in the afternoon to make the most of the garden table & chairs having coffee & watching all the birds that visit. The next time we go to that area of Devon we will hopefully be booking The Yoke again. Everything we needed was there, & the owners were really nice & friendly.
- Kadi, May 2019Diane “Lovely cottage with a beautiful garden.”
We really enjoyed our stay and the owners relaxed and helpfulness made it feel like home from home. Would highly recommend as it is close to many lovely areas with lots of walking and places to see.

- John, February 2019Derek “It's just a nice place to stay, and the dogs loved it as well.”
- Derek, January 2019Nigel “A very comfortable clean cottage with a very comfortable bed.”
The only thing I would say is if you have mobility problems the stairs are steep. The owners are delightful.
- Nigel, January 2019Richard “This is a lovely little cottage, perfect for a couple.”
A dog friendly farm and plenty of dog friendly pubs in the vicinity. The whole booking process was simplicity itself. We will certainly stay here again.
- Richard, October 2018Lesley “Beautiful cottage, fully equipped, warm and comfortable, hosts friendly and accommadating.”
I had a lovely holiday.
- Lesley, September 2018Sharon “Had a fabulous stay warm welcome from the hosts lovely family, very pet ...”
Had a fabulous stay warm welcome from the hosts lovely family, very pet friendly, barney our pooch loved it, fab garden he loved running around and all inclosed, so no worries of dogs getting out, my only concern was that the wall between the yoke and holiday accommodation joining the yoke was very thin, so it can be a bit noisy if there's a family staying with young children, apart from that the cottage was a very homely little retreat loved it
- Sharon, July 2018Melanie “Hosts were very welcoming and friendly.”
Cottage is much better equipped than we had anticipated - everything we could have asked for and more besides! Idyllic location, perfect for exploring the county!
- Melanie, June 2018Paul “Had a wonderful time.”
The property exceeded our expectations. Very clean and very well appointed. Wonderful location with easy access to the rest of Devon. The hosts were brilliant to. Would definitely go back again
- Paul, June 2018Nigel “Lovely welcome , superb place , ideal for touring all areas , cannot recommend the Yoke highly enough”
- Nigel, June 2018Trevor “For us The Yoke was spot on, we would not ask for more.”
- Trevor, May 2018Clare “Lovely and quiet, garden peaceful and sun trap.”
Track to cottage is fine just a typical farm road but fine for all cars. Cottage lovely and clean, milk, tea, coffee and flowers left which was a lovely touch. Warm welcome from Judith. We will be back later this year. Highly recommend.
- Clare, May 2018Stephen “Lovely homely and comfortable accommodation on a working farm, spotlessly clean and well - equipped, conveniently situated between Tedburn and Pathfinder Villages.”
The owners are friendly and welcoming. There are two pubs in Tedburn and small convenience stores in both nearby villages. The Yoke is also ideal for two families travelling together with its adjoining door to the adjacent flat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Only concern was the state of the access track from the main road.
- Stephen, April 2018John “Peaceful cottage in a great location.”
Exactly what I was looking for and met the specification on the website. Very handy for Dartmoor and for Exeter. A wonderful warm welcome from the owners which made me feel right at home.
