“We had a wonderful stay in a lovely , comfortable cottage.”

The cottage is well equipped and has everything needed for a relaxed stay . The views and surrounding countryside are stunning and perfect for dog walks . A true gem of a cottage .

“Delightful, spacious cottage.”

Very attractive well equipped dining kitchen. Comfortable bed, not so comfortable furniture in TV room. First page of Visitor File I expected a welcome from the owner's. Instead it was all about the Do's and Don'ts on departure day and how much you would be fined if you didn't get it right. Excessive amount of notices throughout the cottage made for a very unwelcome feeling. Garden very unkempt. In forty years of using self catering I have never felt so uncomfortable in a place, hence I left a day early. I would not return or recommend. Helen. September 2023

Thank you for taking the time to complete and return your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed the cottage. The pictures on the website do show the furniture in the TV room, it is designed to move around, it is also possible to bring in chairs from another room for extra seating. With the shape of room, having a heater on one wall, the wood burner and three doors into the room, it is trying to find suitable furniture that will fit. We leave a departure notice in the information folder as a guide, along with some helpful notices around the property. The garden is attended to regularly and we are now near the end of the season, and Autumn is upon us with trees shedding leaves etc. Property Owner

“Firstly, a lovely cottage, with a few upgrades could be better.”

The 1st thing we noticed was the excessive amount of notices pinned everywhere, do's and dont's, reminders to clean up and even a threat of £100 fine if furniture was moved and not returned to it's original position! This was not at all welcoming. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped with 2 kettles and 2 nespresso type coffee machines, but no coffee pods. In fact no welcome pack whatsoever ( would help to know in advance if no supplies provided) otherwise I would expect the bare minimum of a pint of milk, teabags, coffee, salt, sugar. After a long day we had to go straight out and find a shop, again not a good welcome. The downstairs TV room/bathroom have a damp smell and only seating for 2 people to watch TV when property sleeps 5. A lovely large garden in need of tlc, very unkempt, the bottom of the garden has a lovely view but we couldn't use it as so over-grown. We also had to remove a pile of rotting figs/leaves from tree by back door as it was attracting flies into the kitchen. The rugs on the landing need to be secured to the floorboards Sadly, we would not return to this cottage without some improvements.

We are pleased you liked our cottage. The notes we leave in the property are there to be helpful. We do not provide coffee pods for the coffee machine. However, a cafetiere and a filter coffee machine are also provided as alternatives. We appreciate that after a long journey, that a welcome cup of tea or coffee is often needed. So, we will consider leaving coffee, teabags, sugar, and milk. There is a Budgens and Spar shop only a 10-minute drive from the property, where you can purchase other provisions. The property has been checked and there is no sign of damp or a damp smell. The property is built with lime mortar and to enable it to breathe, a builder has suggested that lime paint be used on the walls, and this can sometimes give a cottagey smell, but this usually disperses in a relatively short time. The garden is tended to monthly, but we do have an area which we like to leave for wildlife and insects. It is also that time of the year when trees are shedding their leaves and so as soon as you clear up one pile, another soon appears. Property Owner

“Cottage is nice but has rules and fines to hell and back.”

We counted 36 notices. £100 fine for moving furniture and numerous others! Handbook said ‘respect our home, it’s not a hotel’ but we’re paying good money to stay here! The freezer has the hosts food in one drawer, their names are up on the wall. The vacuum cleaner hadn’t been emptied for months or years, the under sink cupboard flooded, had to tighten dishwasher water feed. They knew, someone had left a cloth under the dripping pipe. There are multiple nails sticking up in the bedroom floor. Weird bits of tape on the upstairs landing floor. It smells damp downstairs, there is a lack of permanent ventilation and the downstairs wet room probably contributes. The tv Lounge seats were completely impractical. The garden was dog safe but otherwise completely unkempt. They say it’s bird friendly! The rules and lack of maintenance spoilt an otherwise nice place. I don’t go on holiday to have the stress of fixing leaking pipes and emptying and filter cleaning vacuum cleaners. You need to be a mountain goat to get up the stairs. Parking outside doesn’t really work, we parked up the road by the post box. Happy to provide photographic evidence. It could be lovely, just needs a bit of TLC and respect for paying guests. Location was fine, very narrow lanes, if you don’t like reversing you’re in trouble. When we first walked in we were impressed and pleased. The first page of the ‘welcome’ pack soon put paid to that.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed our cottage. We try to be helpful with the notes we leave, we will look to maybe add more information to our information folder, leaving only the important reminders on display. We are not sure where the £100 fine for moving furniture etc has come from, this most definitely is not the case. This is our holiday home and we do have one drawer in the large fridge /freezer which is labelled for ourselves. There is plenty of room for you to put all your frozen and chilled items. The dishwasher had recently been installed and we were unaware that it was leaking, this has now been checked. Had you made us aware of the issue at the time, we would have rectified this during your stay. Upstairs the flooring is wood flooring, and this has been checked but we have been unable to find any nails sticking up. The tape on the stairs and the top landing is in place because the stairs are wooden and this is anti-slip tape, to help prevent anyone from slipping. We tend to the garden monthly, and there are certain areas which we like to keep as a wildlife garden. We apologise that the vacuum cleaner had not been emptied, this will be checked on a regular basis. Parking is roadside parking as stated on the website and so it is on a first come first serve basis. However, we do try to consider our neighbours and so we all try to park outside of our own properties. As you mention there is parking nearby by the post box or in the front of the church. There should be more clarity about the parking allocations as there seems to be some local opposition to parking on the street. It should be made very clear that guests are not welcome to park outside other residences. ie there is only ONE Parking space directly in front of the property NOT out side the neighbours!!!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay. It does state on the website that the parking is roadside parking. So parking is on a first come first serve basis, there is not allocated parking for each property. However, we do try to be considerate to our neighbours and park outside our own properties. Should you be bringing more than one car, there is often alternative parking available by the post box or in front of the church. Property Owner
