The property

2 miles south-west of Lydford and 1 from its gorge, 400 yards of private farm-lane end at Burnville Farm, a lovely farmstead amid beech trees.

It is on the side of a shallow stream-valley with supreme views of Dartmoor hills and tors and to BrentorÂ’s peak-top church, from almost anywhere on the 250 acre working farm (direct moor access from it).

There are sheep, cattle, ponies, pigs, chickens, ornamental pheasants.

You can roam the farm and help is most welcome.

Pond (picnicking) with mallard, moorhen and usually Canada geese in spring; badgers and foxes about.

Stabling/grazing for your own ponies/horses.

Clay pigeon shooting and instruction, archery tuition (equipment provided) and mountain bikes (adultsÂ’ and childrenÂ’s) by arrangement.

Fenced outdoor heated swimming pool (32' x 16' and 3'6" to 8' deep, available 25 May to 14 September) and hard tennis court shared with owners.

Fun badminton and volleyball.

Games room (6' pool table, table tennis, skittle alley) and well-equipped gym in a refurbished barn.

Lovely walled vegetable garden; fresh veg available in season, and eggs.

Spring water.

Professional catering available and meals in the owners' house.

Golf and gliding, 2 miles.

For you to stay in are The Farmhouse, The Coach House about 100 yards up the private lane, or The Red Barn a mile away.

The extremely nice owners live nearby but out of sight and do B&B in their own house The Coach House has its own indoor swimming pool (17' x 8' x 3' - ‘endless pool’ with variable river flow) and sauna in a separate building just a few yards away.

Own heated games room (snooker, table tennis, table football), lovely paved patio (table/chairs, barbecue) and about an acre of garden (partly stepped or sloping, but with large level lawn areas, sandpit, wooden playhouse).

Inside, well-decorated and furnished, mainly big rooms with many windows (original coach house openings).

Comfortable living room with big fireplace (open fire), big arched French windows, TV/DVD.

Elegant dining room with arched windows, slate floor, piano, glazed door to patio.

Smart kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, range-style cooker with gas hob and electric ovens, larder fridge).

Maple-floored den with woodburner, TV and French windows to forecourt.

Laundry room (washing machine, tumble drier, fridge-freezer, sink).

ChildrenÂ’s snug with wood floor, beanbags, toys.

Boot room with shower; loo.

Upstairs, five bedrooms - the master double (mahogany 5' bed) with en suite shower-room (suite), another double (brass 5' bed), a twin, a single, and a childrenÂ’s room with two sets of 3' bunks; two bathrooms (suites, one with shower over bath).

Arrival after 4pm, departure by 11am.

Tremendous atmosphere, freedom and number of things for adults and children to do, and the houses are much praised.

Tavistock 6 miles; Okehampton 6 miles.

Nestling among mature woodland on the western slopes of Dartmoor, the historic village of Lydford is a jewel in this area of outstanding scenic beauty. To the north, just half a mile away, the high tors come right down to the village edge, while to the south the River Lyd winds its way through Lydford Forest on its tumbling course northwards. Lydford village has an interesting medieval castle and nearby Lydford Gorge (National Trust) with its peaceful woodland walks and White Lady waterfall is a must. The village also has a Post Office, pub and award-winning restaurant. Whether walking the moors, fishing, watching the amazing wildlife or just visiting the many attractions of this stunningly beautiful area, you'll never be lost for something to do. The moorland market towns of Tavistock and Okehampton are both a short drive away.
