Book a Shepherds Hut in the South West
Looking for a rural retreat with a difference? Want somewhere to stay to get away from the normal worries of everyday life?
Book a shepherds hut in the South West and relax amidst beautiful settings, settling into a simple life, even if it’s just for a few days.
What is a Shepherds Hut?
Shepherds Huts date back to around the 16th century and were used, unsurprisingly, by shepherds. They were designed to provide practical and durable accommodation while you were keeping close to your flock.
The shepherd hut is a kitchen, dining area, bedroom, and sitting room all in one, with a stove in the corner and windows on both sides so the shepherd could see the flock. A stable door facing away from the wind meant the shepherd could hear the sheep, and strong cast iron wheels allowed the hut to move from field to field.
With the advent of mechanised farm machinery and electricity, the use of shepherds huts dwindled. But they are making a resurgence more recently as holiday homes!
Why book a Shepherds Hut?
These gorgeous shepherds huts in the South West make lovely settings for a romantic break. Cosy up to your other half and spend some quality time in close quarters. Some shepherds huts even feature hot tubs outside for the ultimate relaxing experience.
Great for Valentine’s Day breaks too, a shepherds hut can provide a perfect place to pop the question, as so many are set within scenic rural areas.
