“On closer inspection there are areas where cleaning had been missed, such as thick dust in the built in wardrobe, dirty glass in the internal door, oven needs cleaning.”

No consumables provided e.g. bin liners (we were told just one lot complementary liners provided) , no wash up liquid or dishwasher tablets. No spare toilet rolls, one given upon request. Never had to provide such items before. No instructions for any appliances and the owner did not know how the heating system worked. Hence on our first night the radiators were red hot. We turned them all off but the claim the towel rail would heat when hot water was run was incorrect. We used the airing cupboard to dry towels. The kitchen lacks a few items, no oven gloves, no where to store bread, no containers for tea, coffee, no fruit bowl, no wooden spoons for cooking. These points are easily addressed. The property is listed as two bathrooms, it has one bathroom and a ground floor toilet. The shower lacks power. The washbasin in the bathroom is too small, more the size for a small cloakroom. The waste bins in the toilets are miniature, too small. The second bedroom needs a mirror. Only one key provided. The owner has dogs, a cat, plus a colony of farm cats. On three occasions had to ask for excrement to be removed from the lawn at the rear of the house. On the plus side the garden surrounding the property is superb, it is a peaceful location with views stretching across countryside. Alison seemed receptive to anything we mentioned but when she said the bin liners were complimentary, I concluded she didn't operate like other properties we have stayed in. It wouldn't take much to improve things, some fittings such as the bathroom cabinet are shabby and are easy to upgrade, the hangers in the wardrobes should be replaced, especially wire and broken ones.

There was a brand new loo roll left in each toilet and you were provided more when requested even though this is a self catering cottage. There was 2 dish washer tabs left under the kitchen sink. I came in and showed you how to use the heating system. There are plenty of bowls you could use for fruit, part of the welcome pack includes tea, coffee and sugar all of which are in pots, there also plenty of cupboard space in the kitchen. You were asked not to feed or allow cats inside which you ignored. I would like to remind you that this is a 3 star self catering cottage. We work on very small margins and try to provide everything you require when you arrive, things you require more of there after is up to you. You arrived at the property and even before entering you complained that Sykes are a terrible company Property Owner
