About the location

TYTHERLEIGH

Chardstock 1 mile; Axminster 4.5 miles; Chard 3 miles; Lyme Regis 8.5 miles.

Tytherleigh is a small village in Devon, on the Fosse Way Roman Road, very close to the borders of Somerset and Dorset, which it actually belonged to until the late 1800s. The village name was first recorded in the mid-12th century and is derived from an Old English phrase meaning ‘thin’ or ‘tender woodland’. Tytherleigh is now an excellent base for walkers, cyclists and horse riders exploring the West Country, with an excellent pub serving delicious food. It is a short walk from a village shop and pub in Tytherleigh, and an easy drive to the popular towns of Axminster and Chard. Each have their own museum and Heritage Centres, interesting shops and wonderful inns serving good food and scrumptious local cider. If you ever doubted the beauty and majesty of this wonderful corner of England, please note that The Blackdown Hills, East Devon, and Dorset AONBs are all just stone’s throw away! You can be sure of picturesque picnic spots and mesmerising country vistas in every direction you look. The impressive Jurassic Coast is also a short drive away to the south, where you can scour the shoreline for fossils at Lyme Regis. An excellent base for friends and families holidaying in Devon.
