Why Choose a Bovey Castle lodge?
Bovey Castle is a large early 20th century mansion located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. This Grade II listed building was built in 1907 by Frederick Smith, on land his father, William Henry Smith, had purchased from the Earl of Devon in 1890.
After WH Smith, then Lord Hambleden, died in 1928, the property and estate was put up for auction by his family in order to pay for the death duty he was liable for. Sold to the Great Western Railway, the house was converted to a hotel and golf course and opened to guests in 1930. The original building has undergone great expansion and renovation since it was first built.
Bovey Castle is now an award winning hotel and 18 hole championship golf course that boasts a spa, pool and fine dining restaurants. Nestled within the grounds are also 22 lodges, beautifully crafted from granite and oak. Smart and stylish, they have sweeping views and access to all the hotel facilities... the perfect spot to completely unwind.
