“The Cottage was an absolute delight, well equipped cosy & comfortable.”

The bed was very good, great mattress & pillows.

The bed was very good, great mattress & pillows. The setting is lovely we spent a lot of time watching the birds in the garden & on the lane. Lots of things to do locally and two good villages, Chagford & Moretonhampstead. Our hosts were very friendly & helpful. Would highly recommend.

The property

About 1½ miles from Chagford and 2 from Moretonhampstead, beside a lane, a little cottage attached to the owners' farmhouse of a 300 acre mixed farm (cattle, sheep) including woodland and ponds (wild duck often).

You are welcome on the farm and to use the owners' garden - lawns to front and back; a barn where swallows and bats roost is next door.

Inside, living room with big beams, woodburner and TV/DVD, open to dining area and fitted kitchen (slimline dishwasher, microwave, fridge, electric cooker).

Stairs from living room up to two bedrooms - a double, and a single (plus 2'6" bed, by arrangement).

Bathroom (suite plus hand-shower).

Washing machine and tumble drier in outhouse (space for wet coats/boots).

Fresh veg when available.

A very friendly and much appreciated place. Chagford: lively, friendly little town (pubs, shops, outdoor swimming pool, tennis) away from main roads in the shelter of high Dartmoor.

Past it the River Teign (fishing) hurries through woods and meadows below Castle Drogo (Nat.

Trust).

Excellent walking; superb views.

Open moor, 2 miles; golf, 3; Exeter (city amenities), 17; sea/beaches, about 20.

About the location

CHAGFORD

Okehampton 12 miles; Exeter 21 miles.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
