Why book a cottage in Port Isaac

The picturesque fishing village of Port Isaac is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage Coast. Whitewashed stone cottages lead down towards a harbour that was once a busy port for the import and export of timber, coal and slate. Fishermen still set out daily in the morning and companies run fishing excursions or boat trips, which are a great way of seeing the village from a different viewpoint.

Port Isaac is famous for being the fictional town of Portwenn in the TV series Doc Martin and it has also featured as a location in a number of films, including Saving Grace. The male singing group, The Fisherman’s Friends, originate from the village and have become very popular for signing traditional sea shanties.

The stunning stretch of coastline is part of the South West Coast Path and you can walk the trail for miles in either direction. If you enjoy dining out then you will be spoilt for choice with a variety of great pubs and restaurants.

Places to visit near Port Isaac

The neighbouring hamlet of Port Gaverne has a lovely secluded beach where you can explore the rock pools and low tide. Farther inland you can walk around the sleepy hamlets of Trelights and St Endellion.
