Why book a Thurlestone cottage?

Thurlestone is a coastal village that takes its name from the arch shaped rock jutting out from the sea - the name Thirl meaning small hole. Thurlestone is a very pretty location with a number of thatched cottages dating back to the 17th century. 

The village has two beaches that are both ideal for families. Thurlestone Beach has clear blue water, golden sands and is manned by lifeguards in the summer months. It is also dog-friendly all year round. South Milton Sands is a popular surfing haunt and is also a great place to spot seals and dolphins. 

The coastline provides a dramatic setting to play links golf. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the 18-hole course sits above Bigbury Bay, providing stunning views of the whole area. The facility also has ten grass tennis and two hard tennis courts.

Places to visit near Thurlestone

Just across the River Avon is the village of Bigbury-on-Sea. The large beach is ideal for kitesurfing, or you can escape into the water and try kayaking or bodyboarding. Visit the tidal island of Burgh Island and find yourself transported back to the glamour and sophistication of the 1930’s when you step inside the Burgh Island Hotel. Farther down the coast is the village of Hope Cove, part of a stretch of stunning coastline with two beautiful beaches.
