    • “We arrived to find a big spacious and very comfortable house. There was a bottle of nice local wine to greet us and we had everything we needed for a lovely holiday. I cannot recommend Farthingfield enough, it was the best holiday accommodation we have experienced and was an ideal base to explore the local area which included Salcombe and Dartmouth. South Pool is a lovely village with lots of character, friendly residents and an excellent local pub (The Millbrook). There was plenty of quirky art décor inside the house and with good views across the creek made our stay all the more interesting and enjoyable - I would recommend to anyone.”

    • “The house is perfect for our large family group and close to Kingsbridge so very near to local facilities. We had stayed here once before and the house itself did not disappoint however there were a few niggles we had not experienced before. When we arrived the storage heaters had been turned off and it took at least 24 hours for the very large house to warm up! The freezer we had hoped to use was totally iced up and unusable and also we received a lovely ‘thank you for staying’ note offering a complimentary gift but there was no gift! We advised the owners on leaving that they should probably speak to their management company as we definitely felt a bit let down at the start of our holiday in spite of it being in a fantastic house.”

The Property

50 yards up a little lane from the creek in South Pool, with stunning views of the estuary and the surrounding village, a wonderful, spacious, 1/3 upside down’ house converted from two old barns. Large, enclosed, paved courtyard immediately outside with 5 steps (no handrail) down to sunken dining area (huge slate-topped table/benches, stone-built barbecue) for alfresco dining and evening sun. Beyond a five bar gate, an acre of sloping paddock overlooking the village, the bottom part of which is lawned with a play frame (Wendy house, slide, swings), brilliant for children to let off steam.Inside, attractively ‘own home’ with original art work and good quality furnishings. From the hall, spiral slate stairs up to kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, electric hob/double oven, larder fridge) with porthole window looking into the living room, French windows to balcony (table/chairs, views), cloakroom (loo) and door to lane. Huge, beamed living room (26' x 15') with open fire in raised hearth, TV/Sky/DVD/PVR and, at one end, glass box/window with splendid views over the creek. On this floor, step up to a generous-sized triple-aspect bedroom (6' zip-linked double or twin) with beams, en suite bathroom (suite with separate power-shower) and village and estuary views. On the ground floor, another large bedroom (6' zip-linked double or twin) with en suite shower-room (suite) and French windows to courtyard, and a double (5' wrought iron bed) with en suite bathroom (suite, shower over bath). Large utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, freezer) for dogs or drying wetsuits and beach stuff. From the living room, more spiral stairs down to small kitchenette (sink, small larder fridge) and folding doors to courtyard - a handy area for preparing trays with drinks and nibbles to be enjoyed outside. Also at this end of the house, a large twin with en suite shower-room (suite). A lovely spacious family house in a 'Swallows and Amazons'-type area, just a stroll from an excellent pub.






South Pool: picture-postcard village (award-winning good food pub, fine church) at the head of a creek (sailing/boating) off the Kingsbridge/Salcombe estuary. Sandy beaches, slipway, pontoon and moorings for your boat, and pedestrian ferry to Salcombe at East Portlemouth, 3 miles. Lannacombe (lovely sandy beach) 2 miles; Gara Rock (beautiful sandy beach, good restaurant), 3; Start Point (lighthouse, cliff walks, sea-bird watching), 3½; Kingsbridge, 5.
