Why visit Yelverton?
Yelverton is a large village that lies on the borders of Dartmoor National Park and the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you like walking and outdoor activities then this is a great spot to visit. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, get closer to nature with walks that take you through woodland, along river paths and over moorland. Trek along the Walkham Valley, follow the Tamar Trail or enjoy a tranquil 3.5 mile circular walk around Burrator Reservoir. The reservoir offers stunning views from many different vistas and is home to a wide variety of plants and birds. Anyone keen on fishing can purchase a permit and try rainbow trout fishing from the bank or boat.
Yelverton has a number of interesting archaeological sites with various burial chambers and stone circles dotted around the landscape. There are plenty of local attractions to keep you busy if you are on holiday. Visit the Garden House and explore eight acres of sculpted gardens and over 6,000 varieties of plants. Close by is Buckland Abbey, a 700 year old Cistercian house with a fascinating history.
Places to visit near Yelverton
Travel north from Yelverton to visit the ancient market town of Tavistock. The town holds World Heritage Status and is where the cream tea originates from. East from Yelverton, on the boundary line of Dartmoor, are the towns of Buckfastleigh and Ashburton.
