Why visit Bideford?
Bideford is a port town in North Devon located on the western side of the River Torridge. The town used to be one of the largest ports in Britain but today it is known for its busy shopping centre and Pannier Market that takes place on Tuesdays and Saturdays every week. Bideford is also home to a number of antique shops and attracts visitors and collectors from all over the country.
The picturesque quay is a great spot to sit and enjoy a quiet drink or grab a bite to eat. Admire the historic Long Bridge, originally built of timber and then replaced in the 15th century by the masonry arch bridge seen today.
As well as a bustling town centre there are many local attractions to enjoy. Keen walkers and cyclists can join the Tarka Trail, a 180 mile, figure 8 loop, that crosses beautiful beaches, wooded valleys and heather coated moorland. Take a boat trip from Bideford to Lundy Island, home to a population of puffins, as well as hundreds of other species of birds. If you are holidaying with young children then a visit to the Milky Way Adventure Park is a must.
